Yep, the oath has changed, in many universities it has become student written and politicized, including what you mentioned, add honoring all indigenous ways of healing, fight "white supremacy", promote diversity, equity and inclusion.

Funny, if I were a patient, all I would care about was getting better!

Since my post got axed from this thread, I will reiterate a toned down version.

Back in 2007 I started on the path to four orthopedic surgeries. The aftermath of PT and pain control was spelled out by my physician as to be pain meds before PT and then as needed for my homework. I went a couple times without the meds in me to my PT appointments and had to leave due to not being able to push through the range of motion that was demanded. Bottom line is that I could not have endured what the therapy required, at that time in healing, without. And, booze wouldn’t have made the grade, either.
Now coming off of the meds was a whole nother thing. Never had the poops plugged from taking the stuff. Sure couldn’t find my happy for a long time though. About sixty days being off of the stuff is when I started to feel happy again.

I am on blood thinners and can’t take any N-saids (sp). Also lost a kidney to cancer. No Ibuprofen, Advil, or aspirin. Must be kind to the other kidney.

For the month of July I was asked continually what's your pain level, don't play catchup on pain. So being on Percocet from surgery repairing my fractured femur I would take what what was available. for that month stay in the hospital.

One evening I asked the CNA what were the individuals in the rooms each side of me there for and she said it was for pain meds addiction. It scared the stuff out of me and that was the LAST Percocet that entered my body. Tylenol was what helped me with the pain that wasn't really that bad.

So after my experience when your put on pain meds right after surgery and told don't play catch up on your pain with your meds it seems to me that its a path that could lead to addiction, at least with the experience I just had.

If taking meds after surgery is the cause for addiction than NOWAY I shouldn't be hooked on pain killers. I went thru triple hernia repair then rotator cuff followed by kidney stones and kidney surgery. Each time I was given OXY CODONE (Percocet) . NEVER took all that was given EXCEPT the triple hernia. I was sent home with 12 ! Told to take every 4 hours. But post op nurse sent me out and forgot the abdominal wrap. Needless to say I was calling the DR for a refill.
ONE BIG problem is people want to lump all pain killers into the same . You hear OXY is the big hook that you instantly become addicted. But the one that they are referring to is oxycotin .NOT OXYCODONE !! IT IS given in terminal cancer patients. The opioid epidemic is media pushed to get more funding. Take out the fentanyl and herion OD's and see what's left. I have an even better ideal. Bring them back 2 times with narcan and then they are out. That will make the numbers drop. I read one report that a heroin addict was revived 17 times in one month !!

Can’t image what a druggie feels like when gobbling these pills daily. Ain’t nothing about opioids that feels good to me.

Anybody else have poor results when taking prescription pain meds?

Blood pressure meds can be bad news too. Yesterday I had to rush to the ER at 5:30 in the morning when I woke up with a BIG swollen bottom lip. The cause? My Lisinopril. Scary stuff as it was just my lip. Some people die from it when their tongue and throat close up. Any med that ends in PRIL I will no longer take. Strange thing is you can take it for YEARS with no problem then all of a sudden BLAMO.

Sucks getting old....

OxyContin is what they gave me after shoulder surgery…good stuff, lol!!

Oxycodone is what they gave me after my hip replacement…Tylenol worked just as good if not better.

Lisiopril I was taking when I had high blood pressure ages ago…I ended up getting Acute Pancreatitis from it. The Doc swore up and down I was a closet alcoholic…haven’t had a drink since ‘93. They finally determined it was from the BP meds.

Sounds like Angioedema like I was stricken with while taking Quinapril two springs ago.

My tongue, throat, and lips were swollen so bad that I started to choke in my sleep.

I drove myself to the hospital emergency room and barely made it before I
started to pass out. They stuck me with an epi-shot and prednisone,
and benedryl to counter-act the allergic reaction I was having with the Quinapril (accupril)

I had four more episodes of this Angioedema during the spring of 2022

To my knowledge, Quinapril has been taken off the market & Lisinopril is
the new replacement drug for the discontinued Quinapril.

No more prils for me for blood pressure meds either !!!!!

I've had 15 vertebrae fused in my back, 3 in my neck and hip replacement. I took hydrocodone after each surgery with no addiction issues. Dr. gave me 1 weeks worth with 0 refills. Pain wasn't taken away 100%, just took the edge off. Surgeon also told me that the body doesn't heal properly if in constant pain. Don't know about that, but it's what he said

Well I was switched to Amlodipine. Been taking it for 5 days now and so far no side effects seen but it's early yet. No more "pril" meds for me.
