Your posts are interesting Cathryn. But how do you collect free roosters, then turn around and sell them? Where do you find the free roosters?

I got 7 more this morning off swap and shop.thats 41 since Friday, I think, give or take 1 or 2.

The pot bellied pigs weigh 80 l s or so a piece and I can't haul.them.and the chickens at the same time so I probably won't get them.

It's about 3 hrs to mt hope from.my house so the less trips the better and I don't dare get em cause that's one thing Jerry will NOT be happy about so, I know my limits with him.

They do but I don't wannabe tied to a.clock.
I do in home care for Mr stepp on Saturdays(he wats me to works 4 days a week from him but I don't want to anymore..I used to work for him before) and I clean parrot cages for a lady on Mondays and Fridays.

That gives me enough money to operate on so im.not costing Jerry and extra money because of me.

He handles the bills and would and does give me money of I need it but I like making my own.

I've worked 9 to 5, 6 am to 6 pm, 5am to 2pm on jobs for years, where I had to punch a clock but the weren't for me.

I don't like having to punch a clock.

I'm good at time management and I like.making money where.most people wouldn't even think about making money.

Im.an outside.person and I don't like to be confined to a desk or building.

Im.lucky Jerry puts up with me, quite honestly, that's why I work real hard at finding money in things where most don't.

I pay for.my vices.

And i pay for our household stuff, laundry det,dish liquid,tp, shampoo cond..that stuff and groceries (if we need any..he hunts and i garden and i got chickens for .eggs so dont need much
By way of food)..

Jerry pays the household bills and the car insurance and for his trapping trips.

We.dont have any credit card debt or loans.

Our system works for us

I don't worry about that cause people are mostly too laxy to do any real work and I work smarter harder,longer and start earlier and work later than they do so they're not really a threat to.my hustles.lol

I also by my chicken feed

He buys the dog food

There's always adds for free rabbits, roosters ,here, they all come with a " not for eating" clause....yea right, lol

Got a pot bellied pig for free once, fed it up and butchered it, first meal made me deathly sick. Figured it was a coincidence, next meal same thing....was going to go for the trifecta but my wife threw it all out, lol

I've butchered pigs before, everything was sanitary, chilled and froze promptly. Never could figure out what happened,

I put an ad on our local Facebook chicken page looking for free roosters and I've located about 70 more locally.
I just have to figure out where to hols em.all until.jerry gets back from wyoming

Cathryn, you can still have disease issues that cause a total loss, but if you put blinders on the roosters, which just fit in the nostrils, you can prevent them from fighting and killing each other. You may suffer a little weight loss, until they learn to turn their heads to see to eat.

The blinders cost about 3 cents each for a hundred and are cheaper in large quanties. Diane and I have put many thousands of blinders on pheasants, chickens and roosters.

You're welcome Cathryn. If you have someone with strong hands, like I'm sure Jerry does, they can just bend the blinders open and pop them in the nostrils. Otherwise, they are easy to flex after being soaked in very hot water.

You can put the blinders in and take them out by yourself, but it's quicker and safer with two people. Typically I catch the bird, hand it to Diane and then Diane holds it still, with the head out, for me to put the blinder tabs in the nostrils. We can do about 3 birds a minute, after dark, if we herd all the birds together and block them off, first.

One year, we spent over 8 hours at night, 2 nights in a row, putting blinders on around 1600 pheasants. That was not a fun time.
