Rosemead California cutting 11,000 palm trees claiming to remove the fire hazard near powerlines. San Diego is cutting palm trees because they don't provide enough shade. Enviro wackos want all non native Palms cut. Court rules that residents aren't protected by property owner rights and the municipalities can cut them down. Thank God that I don't live in California.

Clearing lanes for power lines I understand no matter what the tree or vegetation. The rest not so much.

They clear power lines right of ways down here in the South too. Doesn’t matter whose property they run through. Yep^^^ Power companies have a right of way easement. Can keep it clear. That's not just in California...that's in all 50 states.

Cali mismanages their forest because they are dependent on that federal money they get for disaster relief it sure seems like that.

Yep cheaper to keep them clean in the long run . They learned a lesson in 2006 ice storm here It's always forgotten. After an ice storm down here folks spend the next six months cutting back pines away from the house but years later when the next ice storm hits the trees have grown back. At least Georgia Power doesn't forget, they cut along the lines every year.

And here in the northeast multinational and foreign companies are buying up hundreds of thousands of acres of timberland to not cut the trees, but to sell carbon offsets to save the planet And destroy the local forest industry.
Bluesource has purchase 52,000 acres in NY and 146,000 acres in NH and another Japanese company just purchased 116,000 acres in NY’s Adirondack region. All to sell carbon offsets and not harvest timber.
Selling carbon offsets allows multinational companies to NOT have to control their emissions at the expense of poorer local communities.

I am sure that in most cases, lumber locks up carbon longer than trees rotting on the forest floor or burning in a forest fire.
Keith True, but selling offsets is about making carbon brokers rich, while fooling climate change fanatics that it is reducing carbon emissions.

Their beliefs show a shocking naivety. They are all into futile gestures, rather than actual changes for the better. Keith

The Southern end of Cali will be fenced in some day in the future like the zoo it already is.

Most of the powerlines here do not have an easement. They have to ask permission to cut trees on your property and even pay for the trees if they want them cut. They received my permission to cut a few small trees this year. A friend had some larger trees cut and received a check for about $12,000. Well down here we like our AC, so anything to keep limbs and trees off the lines during inclement weather is much appreciated.

Selling carbon offsets allows multinational companies to NOT have to control their emissions at the expense of poorer local communities. We have a guy on the property right now doing a survey for carbon storage. The owner agreed for them to come out and see if it’ll pay more vs cutting timber. If it does I think he’ll sign a contract stating no trees will be cut for a certain amount of time. I seriously doubt they’ll beat the price of selling trees though.
