I was talking to my farmer that plants our larger food plots- he said there's a line of agricultural drones that identify and spot spray selective invasives and non-desirable weeds. Seems like a good use of technology to minimize chemicals and non-target plantings.
Has anyone used or seen one in action?

Not that - but i have contracted for drone spraying a ten acre wetland

They started using for seeding cover crops in the fall before crops are harvested now that capacity has increased on drones. Most commercial applicators don't want to do spot spraying. Tough to make money. In turn, they usually charge a fairy high cost to do small acres. They want volume. When I was with usda/nrcs in Iowa about 7 years ago we had a really sharp technician who left the fed govt and got into ag drones. He was pretty sharp and saw ahead for their uses and applications. At that time I think he was flying them for nitrogen deficient areas in corn fields so he could know where to up the N rates. I am sure there are many more applications today for spot treatment in fields.

Interesting topic- that was a good article Justin, enjoyed it. I also heard they're using drones to initiate prescribed burns and with the capacities increasing, more applications will evolve.
