My local has gone full self checkout. Just walked out leaving a buggy full of meat and dairy because the lines stretched half the width of the store and doubled back to the middle.

Told the store manager that I would not be back and called corporate to tell them the same.

Somone actually called corporate instead of yelling at a cashier or other random bottom teri person..... Nice smile
Seriously people who don't understand how big companies like Walmart work and just loose it in bottom tier employees drive me nuts. Corporate are the ones who make a majority of decisions and the people at the store can't change it at the snap of a finger. But no one ever seems to try and call corporate.
So seriously thank you for actually calling the shot callers with your grievance, another few dozen people it might actually do something

Online shopping is likely to kill many of the Walmart stores. High labor costs will help kill them.

I don't want to work as a cashier and bagger at Walmart, or any other store either. Younger people than us are mostly okay with checking themselves out.

Actually running a business you learn to go straight to the decision makers rather than waste your time with the order takers. They are just as powerless as the customer.

I also understand the pressure corporate is under to cut costs when the social pressure is the "living wage". They are between the rock and a hard place and unless they get up the gumption to bust some rocks they are going to suffer.

But at the rate things are going I'm thinking a whole lot of things are going to get busted before it's all over.

walmart has bigger problems. all the stuff that got them big is no longer policy. sam walton is probably haunting his heirs over it

Our Walmart the other day had one register open, and three employees standing at self check out, seems to me they are doing it backwards.

I like Aldi for some things I can't find elsewhere, lidl the same, but otherwise the selection is poor in our stores.

My other options are Kroger, Publix both higher or Ingles.

I boycotted them years ago. They put a lot of small American businesses out of work.

Fear not, government grocery stores will soon be opening everywhere the private stores pull the plug.

Many inner city black neighborhoods already have government sponsored stores because theft and vandalism closed all the regular grocery stores.

EBT cards and inflated prices, to cover loss, are not enough to make many inner city stores profitable.

Private companies get government grants to give people who will build stores in black neighborhoods.

Chicago and other major US cities are starting to create city own stores.

Our Walmart is all self-check out now. They finished a big remodel job recently. Now no one can find anything since everything has been moved all over the place.

I have seen several folks taking advantage of the honor system situation. No one is challenging these people at least when I was there.

I did some after-hours HVAC work at Walmart some years back. They had a trusted employee watching the back door making sure no one was making off with the merchandise. They were primarily worried about their own employees.

I can see if they can control theft the self checkouts would save labor. But how does having employees gather your groceries for you and deliver them to your car? Wonder how that pencils out?

I order all our Walmart stuff on-line. I figured I could go in, deal with idiots, try to find whatever I want, wait in line to check out my stuff, bag it, haul it out to the car, load it up and head home,,, or pull in punch a button on my phone. They bring out all my stuff and load it for me .... no brainer. I haven't been inside a Walmart more than a handful of times in 3 years.
