Was some kind of attachment used for horse logging. There was a piece of oak through the middle of it about 12 feet long when I found it but was rotten and fell apart when I pulled it out of the ground. Any idea what it was used for I'm out of ideas and know a little bit about logging with horses.

I will be stopping by camp on the way north to work today and will get a few more pictures from different angles to better explain how it looked when I found it.

It is about 40 pounds in the picture I'm sure that the oak was another hundred being the size it was. There was a couple of old bunk sleigh there also but I didn't think to bring them out because there are closer ones that I can get to if I want them in the yard in the future.

Would it be a rising block for getting more logs onto the sheds

Looks like might be a stump puller used with draft horses

The oak piece was probably the tongue that was hooked up to the horses harness. The pulley probably acted as a snatch block for a cable that was anchored on one end to a standing tree and the other end to a felled log that needed to be moved.

Whatever it is, it needs to displayed somewhere that it can be admired for the craftsmanship that went into making it.

I wonder if it isn't some sort of binder to hold down the load of logs ? That when you take these pictures to the senior center and ask some of the old timers there . They may tease you a bit and give you more information than you want but then you will know quite possibly .

You're friend along the snare line .

I love old time tools. That's a good one.
