Anyone ever get rich quick or know someone who did? How did they do it and what happened?

I knew a guy who was about 21 and got $1,000,000 on a lottery, couple new trucks and trips to dancing bars and it it was gone within a couple years.

Usually happens that way.

I started with nothing and still have most of it left !!

I got rich 2 times in my life . First was at 15 when I got saved . Second was when I married my current wife ! 28 years and counting. Had to figuratively file bankruptcy on my first wife ! Lol

Guy I graduated with won a huge lottery ticket just out of high school. He was almost voted most likely not to succeed but i beat him out. Most guys I know with big bucks chased the dollar all their lives.

Wife got her share of over 3 million when the family ranch sold we still live the same as we did before that nothing fancy just comfortable.

Rich man I'm just trying to get to the place I can live comfortably on what the local to my farm jobs pay. I may have to remove the comfortably part if I want it to happen. After being born poor and becoming comfortable it's very hard to think about being broke again.

My dad hit the lottery when when he was 15 in 1930. During a long freeze up, he and his dog Shep found 3 possums in a cow carcass. He said he thought he got 50 cents apiece for them, big money for him in those days.

When I get the "get rich quick" thoughts it's time to listen to Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd.

I'm not rich far from it by American standards but i would be very rich in a big section of the world. and am truly blessed but I'm far from happy traveling for work and working the rotating shifts often 16hrs. Doing all I can to get things in place to Mantain. my comfort level on less.

I hear ya PF, pulled that grind myself for many years working lots of OT and not many days off.

Missed a lot of Christmas, thanksgiving, etc with family, and most regrettably time with my kids...Wasn't fun a lot of the time, but it set us up to have some land, a home, vehicles, equip to hunt & trap, etc.

But we are happy, and honestly rich people and the affluent culture just leave me cold...Not jealous, just a difference in priorities I guess, but people in the middle to upper middle class just seem happier, and more comfortable in their skin.

Like the OP I knew a guy that inherited a bunch of money when his Dad died.
He too peed it away in a years time.

There is a reason that the poor are poor. If one took all the money in the Country and divided it up equally among all in a years time the poor would be poor again.

Im very rich I have been lucky to work hard my whole life outdoors, rich is not money.

I do bad with large chunks of money......I ussaly do family investment,,,, but when your hand is full,,, temptation is there

There was a guy on here and still may be that was maybe 30 and already could retire. He freely gave out money advice. Think it was Bob or something like that. Maybe he’ll respond.

I never achieved the get rich quick trick. Mine has taken 55 years so far and I still haven’t reached the rich portion. I’m not lacking for anything and buy what I want if I pester my wife long enough. But we also lived well within our means through the years. The latest and greatest isn’t for us. It’s the “it’s so old and falling apart, it’s time for a new one”, lol.

It's taken me over 50 years to become an overnight success ....

I have a hot wife, and we had 5 kids in 6 years. So I'd say I got rich pretty quick.
