But we are happy, and honestly rich people and the affluent culture just leave me cold...Not jealous, just a difference in priorities I guess, but people in the middle to upper middle class just seem happier, and more comfortable in their skin.

Money will make you more of what you already are. More happy or more bitter.

Be smart work hard put money away if you can even better find a job with a retirement plan of some kind stay away from useless debt. Retire as early as you can and enjoy life the clock is always ticking. I see seniors in their 80s still working in fast food that breaks my heart that cannot be easy for them.

Plan B marry a rich woman. LOL

Buck was right.

The ones I know took big risks and if it didn’t work they would have lost everything, so there’s some luck involved as when they had to put money in there wasn’t time to investigate if it was a good choice.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say you don’t actually know any truly rich folks. I know quite a few and they are the most down to Earth happy folks I know.

I have an older sibling who is a millionaire many times over. He got there by hard work and investing wisely. His advice has always been the same: never borrow money for things you want. Only borrow as an investment to make money off of other people's money.

There’s a great book called The Millionaire Next Door. Most millionaires, like 80% are first generation millionaires meaning they didn’t inherit their money. And within 2 generations their kids and grandkids blow it all and the family is back to zero. If you don’t have the skill and discipline to save and invest, you won’t be rich for long.

That book is 30 years old but still a good read.

There’s a couple from a reserve north of here that won $50mil. Alotta new vehicles in the reserve, hired security for their children at school…but they did donate a few million to charities. I think they’re still above water, but certainly wouldn’t call them rich. A million bucks or 2 would make things easy for me, but I’d still have to work.

At 69 I am retired 13 years and, barring any global calamity, financially sound for as long as I live. Winning big money in a lottery would just be a pain in the butt. I have no idea how to deal with multi millions of $ and don't want to spend the time I have left learning how. The only thing I know I would do if I had big money is to fly charter flights where ever I would like to go. I hate flying with the commercial airlines.

My wife and me have both won the lottery that is the Ky elk draw she won a bull elk tag in 2009 got a dandy. Well I got drawn for a bull tag in 2012 my bull rack size-wise was about half the size of hers. So I got a second chance to beat her in 2020 again got a bull tag this one rack size-wise was about one third the size of hers. Do we play the state money lottery?` we both are not stupid to throw our money away like that.

I'm guessing most of the rich people you know, worked for and built their wealth. They learned how to handle the money and not let the money handle them. Getting rich quick, seems to be a whole nother ballgame.

I know a lot of people who are very well off. Meaning they have no worries about money, they can do what they want when they want, and buy what they want when they want. Some of them may only have a couple Million, some may have a LOT more than that. Most of them made their money the hard way, they earned it, and were disciplined about their finances. I also know a couple people who have old money, millions that have been passed down through generations. They are also disciplined with their money. They are also very generous when they see a need and are emotionally invested in an organization that does good and that they trust.

Money gets away really easy and really fast, just ask professional athletes and lottery winners. Discipline lasts a lifetime.

I'll never have the kind of money these people have, I have chosen to accumulate experiences rather than money and things. I doubt if I will regret that, but maybe I will when I am 80 years old. I won't know until I get there.

Here's an interesting example of someone I knew with a lot of money. Her name was Alice and her husband was a logger in California who invented the chainsaw. He was gone when I knew Alice, but she gave a lot of money to good organizations she believed in. She donated $1 million to the Christian School in Willmar, Mn when they needed to build a new high school wing. Just an example. They wanted to name the school library after her and here words were, "Don't you dare!"

I talked to her last in 2008 she was in her early 90's she told me she had finally given all her money away and now she could die in peace. Interesting way to look at it.

I know plenty of people who started with nothing, put in the hard work and are now financially successful.

I know a few who lucked into it.

Work hard. Stay out of debt. Save. Invest. Live way below your means.

I don't do the envelopes but still follow the Dave Ramsey philosophy.

Oh yeah, don't get divorced and stay out of casinos.
