Well.... we have a winner. 160user... I guess you are wondering which guess he gave that was correct? There were some really great answers, and I didn't figure anyone would guess the correct one.

The Answer IS... Vicks.

Does anyone know why Vicks? Have you ever been around a body that has been dead for several days? You can't get that smell out of your nose. So, you put a little dab of Vicks in each nostril. It doesn't always get rid of all of it, but it certainly helps make it tolerable to around the body.

Actually, I cheated. My "Adopted Grandfather" Russ Johannsen was a Warden for years and then Sherriff of the county for 20 years. Many times he told stories of needing to use Vicks just as you described. He said in a pinch, a handful of fresh coffee grounds in a fry pan on HIGH would do the same thing but it wasn't instant relief. I was lucky enough to spend many days with him traveling to both gun shows and trappers conventions. The stories were endless and many were hilarious.

160user is very familiar with vicks. He uses it when he's in town at those establishments he frequents like Walmart.

Lol. Sissies I have never used anything and I work around a lot of decomps. Even house them in my office...my brother got in into this coroner gig and he used Vicks also in his LE career they must have taught that in the academy lol. The Vicksburg will just open up your sinuses and make your nose and eyes run. While still smelling it my staff pours alittle white vinegar in a rag then takes a strong sniff I don't think it covers anything up they just can smell nothing after that..lol I love watching LE,FF, & even funeral directors with that kind of case.. they just tell me" your not right" lol may so.
