November of '59.

Actually this is a photo of myself with a family friend's buck. I don't have a suitable photo of mine.........when I was much older and could be trusted with the old Model 94 .32 Special!! P.S. The dogs name was Jumbo.

I don't remember which one of my gats that was! By the looks of it, I'd guess it was a side-by-each cork shoot'in popgun! It was replaced about a year and a half later with a .117 caliber Red Ryder.

Nice!

My Grandad hauled my first deer home the exact same way, on a 1963 chrysler.

There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.

That is an awesome picture. It was so common in those days that a car was used for hunting and trapping. That is what we used also.

Give me a fish, I will eat for a day. Teach me to fish, I will eat for a lifetime

Thanks for the comments, folks. I really have no memory of that particular buck, but do remember the old timer that shot it. I also have a few faded recollections of my family members deer hunting in the 50's and early 60's. They mostly involved red plaid men carrying Winchester 94's, or scope-less bolt guns in thirty-oh-six caliber. Most of these men were WW2 vets or those vet's fathers and uncles. My own grandad among them. He, like most his age, naturally, carried a Winchester in .30-30 or, like my step-grandfather's rifle, a 94 in .32 Special, the gun I used to lay low my first deer. None of these men used coop blinds or scattered corn, carrots, or anything else for bait. If they used a blind at all it was made of balsam brush or dead logs they piled up log cabin style in low three sided hides that blended in with the country they were built in. Most, including my mother, who was a good deer killer, just sat on a stump or log and sat as still as an avid smoker could. I looked up to these woodsman a great deal, and longed for the day I turned 14 and could join them as a gun toting deer hunter with my own stump and license pinned to the back of my own red plaid wool hunting coat. The whole deer hunting culture has sure enough changed since those days!
