Very cool EJ drove all day Friday from Maryland to Michigan to go deer hunting for a couple days. Never hunted a day in his life. This morning left him on a deer trail when up about 100 Yards and in 5 Minutes he got the camp deer.

I'm taking him to swamp in morning for his first buck. I pulled traps before rifle season wish I would have left them in with my visitor.

You fry a skillet full of butter and butterflied backstrap for him?

Yesterday we fried him Yellow Perch we caught in our back yard on the river, and tonight he had backstraps with Mushrooms and Onions. He does not want to go home! Family always protecting him and when he got of age he just came to go hunting. Way cool. He defiantly has Chagnon blood in him.

Very nice thanks for sharing. I was that city slicker kid with a single anti gun mom. I got into archery. Would get one of my grandparents to give me a ride to my cousins and he and I would walk from his house and hunt. Never had anyone take us or teach us. Killed my first several deer with a bow starting at 13 siting in the fork of a tree. Learned how to gut a deer by watching a VHS I rented from national video.

My kids had it easy by comparison. But are better more knowledgeable hunters now at 11 and 13 than I was in in my early 20s.

I wish I had had someone to take me under their wing and shorten the learning curve like you are doing with him. Great job and congratulations to you both. Great job.

Excellent!

swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo

You have to remember that 1 out of 3 Democratic Voters is just as dumb as the other two.

These kinds of stories always bring me joy

Keep giving him (and any of the other youngsters in the family) those opportunities

Congrats to him and kudos to you

I have twin boys as neighbors As very young kids they took an interest in my hunting and trapping actives . Their father was never a hunter but was willing to help me to help them to get a start I said as long as they where safe and behaved in a respectful manner I would be willing to loan them a rifle and take them with me I ask the Father to go with us and I told him I would not tolerate any out of line behavior .So we spent the summer of the year they turned 12 getting them in a hunter safety program practicing at the range And we made a trip or two to the property we would be hunting They have a short youth day hunt in OCT in PA We made plans to hunt all 3 days if need be WEL in about.2 hours of start their hunting career the older twin shot a button buck that was about 120 away In the remaining 3 days of the youth season no other opportunities occurred Several weeks went by until th start of the general firearms season The twins both had tags for a buck and the one hat did not get a deer in the OCT season also had a doe tag .The younger one that did not get was going to stand with me per his Dad's request and the other boy was going to set up Dad had decided when we stated planning this out that he was not going to carry a gun during the season He took the hunter ed course and of course got the necessary gear hunter orange clothing to be legal At about 2 hours from opening shooting time on the first day either of them could kill a buck the younger one shoot a wide long tined 5 pt. from a distance of about 70 yards. In the next 2 years they both killed buck .The older one shot a very nice 10 pt for his first buck and the younger one killed a spike And this year their Dad killed his first ever .Taken with a bow Not bad for a guy that is near to 50 and was a non hunter until he got involved in hunting because his sons where interested in hunting because I encouraged them from the time they where toddlers to take an interest in outdoor actives And now the 3 rd son in the family is carrying a gun and hunting in the deer rifle season I have made it a point to ry to mentor young hunters We need to get them interested early and reach out to kids that otherwise would most likely not become hunters because they are not generally associating with other hunters . ..So John to your point about beginners luck that is the best possible thing that can happen to new hunters so they get involved like we did any years ago.
