The possibility the Scaup family, and I do believe there is a few different species of them though.

100% goldeneye not scaup.

To refine more look at the hint of whiteish feathering between the base of the bill and the eye. That is the start of the round white patch of a male goldeneye. That it is only just appearing says it is a young of the year male. Adult males should have a round white patch and green head showing by now. Without going into detail white is also appearing a few more places on that bird that make it a male vs female but a young male.

To refine more again shape of bill says common goldeneye versus Barrow's goldeneye.

Some of u need to bone up on finer pts of duck ID. It is not Donald or Daffy etc etc lol. Not a hen goldeneye or scaup either.

Read what I wrote - there are some fine pts to be understood about this stuff. Lots of big duck killers don't get into it about finer pts of ID. Might be able to kill ducks but not interested in the finer pts of ID.
