I'm building a meat room in my basement. Walk in cooler, grinder, band saw, cutting table, sink, etc. After cleaning up the equipment there will obviously be fat, hair, chunks of meat, etc. Will a pump work and be able to push the water with bits of material in it, or am I just going to be battling clogged lines nonstop? I do plan on having a sink strainer in, but that doesn't catch everything. Any plumbers on site that have seen this situation? And do I have any other options? Thanks.

Could you use a trash pump?

There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.

most sump pumps will handle some solids easily up to like 1/4 inch. if you are concerned put a basket type strainer around the pump or on the line going into the sump.

Get a grinder pump. I used them in sewer plants to pump raw material up into the plant. You will be glad you installed one.

Thanks guys. Jbyrd, does a grinder pump connect to the sink drain pipe, or would I have to drain sink into a tub and use as any other sump pump?
