I caught a muskrat in a 330 in an otter set and it was laying on the bottom and the crawdads ate all the skin off its head yesterday. Things must be like piranha!

Sure it's not a renegade piranha? Good grief! Funny thing....a piranha was actually caught on hook and line a few years back about 3 miles upstream of where this happened. They figured an aquarium release.

I would think the crayfish would be sedentary,,,,, unless you are trapping a tributary from a hot spring.
Plus there would have to be a army of them to do that, even if you a were doing a month plus soak.

![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2023/12/full-57883-200259-img_0259.jpeg) Bp, we seem to be getting a few turtles, there was three turned into ODFW in Springfield this summer I think. This one I turned in. It was 28 pounds I think. I got it in Harrisburg. They don’t know where or how they got here. One was full of eggs. Not sure they can survive the cold here though. Western Wildlife Services It gets a lot colder here in MN and snappers survive just fine. Considered an invasive species there? Here they are starting to consider them endangered, which is a joke.

I have had that happen several times trapping through the ice (one pond in particular). The damage was nearly identical. Crawdads is my best guess, but no direct evidence See yall. We're not the only ones quote have experienced crawdad damage to submerged catches

Might have to submerge a 330 with a big chunk of beaver slivered onto the trigger wires. It would be a hoot to catch a snapper here in Oregon.

Had one this spring, chewed a hole dead center in the back. Problem beaver wasn't completely submerged. I have no idea what it was. Could be a bird of prey like a hawk or eagle. Ravens will attack a nuisance beaver floating in open water some times. If they are belly up they can open the skin,if they are belly down they pluck all the fur off trying. See tons of fur floating all around the plucked beaver.
Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Skinned that beaver tonight. Kind of interesting that whatever it was that chewed it up (thinking turtle now) completely ate up the oil sacs oil and all. Munched up some of the castor too.
