On my place a dog would work good I would think. They get so far ahead of a guy so don't know if a dog prevents that or not.

Late season birds, the ones that run stay alive… typically.

Birds live by their ears and eyes, they’re grouped up now. Pushing into blockers is the best way at this time of the year.

That is probably the best way to hunt them. Yep!!!

I'm there working and just take a walk to see if I get lucky to get one in range. I don't hunt them to speak off the last time was about 4 years ago and I got one then.

Boil/simmer him until he is falling off the bones and make a batch of homemade noodles. I would rather eat them that way than any other. They taste so much richer than a chicken when done that way.

Pheasant salad, just like a good chicken salad. Pheasant pot pie, pheasant and noodles over mashed potatoes. Fried pheasant fingers. Pheasant casserole with golden mushroom soup and Munster cheese.

A cooking bag with your favorite soup base makes a good meal. Cream of whatever floats your boat.

I cut my pheasant breasts into 1/4 to 1/2 inch strips lengthwise along the length of the breast. Then i strip out the silver skin. Dip in egg n milk. Grind saltines into powder. Mix cracker powder with just a spoonful or two of wondra gold medal flour. Heat oil in pan to hot enough that a pinch of the flour mixture starts sizzling when you drop it in. Roll breast strips into the flour/cracker mix and put I to heated oil. It should start sizzling immediately, not bathing in oil. Salt n pepper. Fry till the bottom is golden brown. Turn the strips frying the other side for a bit less time than the first side. Once its starting to just get golden, turn the heat to low low and PUT a lid on the skillet, covert 3/4 of the skillet. You basically want to steam it very slowly, letting some of the moisture out. Otherwise the breading will fall off. About 5 minutes into the steaming, I pull a piece out and cut it with a fork. Repeat until there is no blood in the meat. Its important not to rush the finishing steam. Over cooking it ruins it.

Serve with some brown seasoned rice.

Don't know nothing about pheasants but see 50-75 in a quarter mile like about 400 yards.

Walking into the wind on a windy day helps with runners. As mentioned
, blockers help too. Even just a car parked or better yet a diesel truck idling in the right spot can serve as a blocker.

My dogs and I would think we'd died and gone to pheasant heaven.

Keep it simple for a guy if not a chef or kitchen lover.

Some wild rice, a few chopped up carrots-veggies, can of cream of mushroom soup.
Start all that a bit ahead of time in the crock pot, add the plucked pheasant an hour or two later, walk away give it the day and eat like a king.

If I do some looking I know I have several recipes for making pheasants Since I have more than one of them And you have enough to try it several different ways maybe I can help you out by joining you when you go for a short walk then produces 50 to 75 rooster sightings In the 60,s 70,s and early80.s that was not only possible but likely Now unless you are hunting a place that is stocked by the PGC 50 to 75 pheasants would b a whole decade of pheasants sightings Nice post

I do know it sounds farfetched but seeing that many birds is correct. Might see 8 to 10 get up all at once or see 4 to 6 get up with in 300 feet. They get up in the distant around you more than a quarter mile away, but you see them.

Yes, all wild birds no stocking birds or game farm. LOL I wouldn't hunt such a place that you are a member to hunt with stocked birds. I'm not belittling the people that do, I'm just saying I wouldn't.

Its hard for folks that don’t see more then a handful of birds in a season to comprehend those numbers but we had that years ago. One wave would get up then another wave would get up 100s in a pass. I avoid telling that to people in conversations because if I did not see it I would not believe me either. LOL

That sounds like a birdhunters paradise. Sounds like I'd better bring a twelve gauge with full and modified chokes.

How to make a Pheasant

... well, you see, when a boy pheasant falls in love with a girl pheasant.... laugh

Seriously, it's the same as chicken but drier and tougher. Dicing the breast in cubes and wrapping in bacon, then on the grill is the best way, just like doves. You can save the legs and thighs and gizzard too, but they require a low slow cook like in a crockpot with some cream of ___ soup.
