I really enjoyed Jim Spencer's editorial in the latest Trapper magazine. He writes about Christmas in 1959 and how he received a dozen Victor #1 Longsprings and how this started a life long obsession with trapping that continues on today. He talks about the timeline from that Christmas morning to his trap line in Arkansas today. You could change a few details about what he wrote and the story would be about many of us who have had the same lifelong obsession with trapping.

Very well written Jim, and I hope you get to enjoy many more trapping seasons.

Thanks for sharing that. True enough, something as innocent as a Christmas gift can really prove to be a catalyst.

I found six #1 Victor long springs in my Dad’s attic in 1960 and it started the fire in me.

Mr Spencer puts into words the exact feelings many of us have about hunting and trapping And how that influenced our entire life I never met Jim but on 2 occasions Jim donated some of his mink trapping traps with his tags on to help raise money for funeral expenses of well known trappers One was Ken Smythe (sp) and I can not remember the other one THAT LEADS ME TO THINKING HE IS A CLASS ACT Merry Christmas Jim And best wishes as you are on your trapline this season

x3 Mine was a #1 longspring from the feed room given to me by my granddad. Then my mom and dad gave me a bb gun and 3 #2 victor coilsprings for Christmas. Jim's stories are relatable as is he and Jill. They've done so much good for trapping. Great Mink Manual and Mink Movies. I've wore them out!
