I use DPs, but really don't like them. It limits a trapper to what they are going to catch and I NEVER recommend them to a new trapper. Yesterday I moved to a part of the property I hunt that has never been trapped. I had my cousin's 10 year old son with me, his dad owns the property. We found a small creek that cuts across a pipeline and I took him into the woods, following the creek into a beautiful bottom. The young boy has killed several deer and has a lot of hunting under his belt, so I had him look for sign. He quickly picked up on trails, crossovers and tracks. When it was said and done we put in 36 #1.5 CS on pocket and blind sets. To be honest the DPs have been not working in the normal spots as we have hammered the critters and they have figured out that DPs are bad news, 67 in one night. We needed something new and went old school.

My Honda Pioneer is parked right by his back door, so when I cranked it up this morning he come running out with his waders on, carrying a couple of biscuits with bacon. He hands one to me and we head out. We got to the spot where we started yesterday and walked in. We finished that line with 21 coons and a nice boar mink. He is fired up and asked if I have ever done as good as today, and I told him never that percentage per trap. It was amazing how everything connected. We go check the rest of the line and end up with two nice beaver at a dam I let him bust up and pick the spots for the sets. Tomorrow I'm hoping our bobcat and coyote sets we put in today have some critters.

I'm the 7th generation of trapper in my family, I think I have insured we have the 8th generation.

That's good stuff there Trappeur. I doubt anybody can match that lineage either. Fantastic.
