My cat line is out and baited I got it out in the good weather thank God. I don’t have any traps set that I’d need to check anytime soon I’ll just wait it out until I can get in there to set it up. Might work in my favor if the cats keep hitting the baits and the coon and skunks hold up for a while.

Those straight winds and some snow is a bad deal in flat country. When I was trapping Kansas a couple inches of snow and 30 mile winds shut down trap checking for a while on the section roads until a grader came thru. You couldn't tell the road from the ditches, your field access or pastures.

You get 15"- 20" of drift on the road you bottomed out and were done for a while until you could dig out and back up.

I-90 closed Mitchell to Wall SD still another round expected after this one.

I figured they’d shut the highway down. How will Wall drug survive the famine?

They always seem to shut it down at Wall which means the town fills up with people stranded and waiting for the interstate to open back up. Probably all the businesses that were going to be closed today decided to quickly reopen.

I guess that would trap a bunch of east bound folks.

Went to the neighbors to take care of his chickens and ducks the drifts went from ankle deep this morning to knee deep by dark.

Solid sheet of ice here. No snow. Gusty winds.
Just went out and got 2 armloads of firewood and bout bit the dust 2 times.
Hate to be driving right now.

Figger the local hospitals will be dealing with broken bones tonight.

Brother in law just over in IA said the same lots of ice with branches down.

Sleeting here now I might be able to walk the drifts in the morning will see what the next wave brings either way I’ll make it work even if my cubbies turn into trench set combos. LOL

I've been watching weather maps for several days and being thankful I am not in the Dakotas, Minn. or Nebraska.

How much snow and ice do you have by now?

The rain and sleet helped so far it’s Dakota strange weather, in places the ground is bare and in other places the drifts are waist/chest deep around the buildings. If it freezes then it will get rough to get around we just need to move the snow you can move before it freezes in one big block.

In any case I ordered new bindings for my snowshoes yesterday.

You live in some pretty country Law Dog. Came through there on Labor Day weekend driving my daughter out to Spokane for graduate school. I love driving across SD, albeit it was 100 degrees that weekend!

It missed me 100 %. It stayed south of me and looks as though it angled NE. No travel advised North of Bismarck to SD boarder and west of Bismarck out past Valley City. Most of the roads are ice covered over east from SD to Canada and the road is closed from Grand Forks to Canada. I show a one percent chance of rain snow mix today.

Two systems are combining; a California clipper and a Gulf of Mexico swirl = messy weather for the next 3 days still ahead.

Wind died snowing a bit but not that bad just hope the nasty stuff has passed. I got cat traps to set it opens today I’ll wait until the roads are cleared.
