The sheet metal outer layer of the lug nut swells...due to rust...and you can't get the correct size socket on the nut.
That's when the fun starts

That's when the fun starts Yup, but they make " between " sizes to get them off, 18.5mm, 19.5mm... Then replace them!!!

dodge 12-13 and a some others did a chromed sheet metal sleeve over the steel lug nut , bad enough that there is a oversized flip socket just for beating it on and getting them off
also I think it is a 21mm not 7/8
I had the issue with my wife's 2012 Dodge caravan Napa sells a lot of the solid replacement lug nuts for this reason
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

You can help that with some anti-seize compound on the thread when putting on the wheel bolt, no your wheel won't fall off, LOL
I've done this for years, lots of times people tighten way past the torque need to, and that is really bad for aluminum nuts
I usually just change them out for steel ones now, not to expensive but worth the effort if you are having a problem on the road or out in the wild !! The best way to over torque lug nuts is to put anti-seize on them. Lug nuts should be installed dry.

I use anti seize and a torque wrench
it sure is nice to be able to get things apart again.
make sure the mating surface of the aluminum rim to the steel rotor is antiseized or fluid filmed as well as the back side of the rotor to the hub.
