Scary stuff indeed. Glad he got there in time.

I had four (4) Angioedema attacks in February thru April 2022
possibly from statins.

The 1st episode WAS massive swelling of Tongue
and almost complete throat closure cutting off my airway.

Drove myself to the ER before It got real bad
but just made it as I was choking, gagging,
& gasping while the ER checked me in.

They asked about Statins (It was Accupril I was taking).

They hit me with some intervenous antihystamine/benadryl stuff
& prednisone steroid to counteract the Angioedema.

They took me off 3/4ths of my meds including Accupril.

I then proceded to have three more attacks
over the next month that were less severe
& finally saw an allergy specialist who could
only say the cause was "Idiopathic" meaning
she had no clue for sure what triggered them.

Now the cardio doctor has me back on a Statin
as he absolutely insists I can't be without it if he
is going to treat me for heart issues.

I swear these guys get payed cash for everyone
they get hooked up on these Statin drugs.

They now have me on Rosuvastatin calcium (Crestor)
which one of the side effects (which I just looked up)
are allergic reactions including swelling of the throat & tongue.

No specific mention of Angioedema, though. lol.

So I guess I'm waiting for my next Angioedema attack !!! frown

I had been taking it for many years. It has been a long time. I started to develop a cough that is unusual for me and it persisted for weeks. Told my PCP about it she said it was most likely the Lisinopril.. She took me off it immediately and put me on another drug call Valsartan. It is in the same class of drugs but has a different pathway in the body. It is 2x daily which is a pain, but in a week, I stopped coughing..

Been on it couple years but forget take it some nItes, last time I had blood pressure check. It was very low,the lowest ever an alarming low, they say it ok? I never had it that low, I blame it on meds from psychiatrist that cause it . Not sure if very low blood pressure is bad or not

I've been taking 20mg Lisinopril for eight years with no side effects. I feel bad if I forget to take it.

I will refuse statins as well. I'm getting to the age the check engine light can come on. I'm cleaning up everything now. I see lots of people in older age that eat real food, are healthy, and are on zero meds. I imagine meds can really cut into a person's budget. I ain't giving my money to drug companies. I do own stock in some so all you guys on them, thanks for the profits. Lol

My Spring Beaver partner fought a dry cough for years. Multiple trips to Dr. including ear, nose , throat specialist. He was absolutely miserable ! To be honest it got plenty irritating for me hearing him cough and choke constantly with no relief.
He did his own research as he got no relief from his multiple Dr. visits. He found articles describing his very symptoms others had experienced on Lisinopril. Took his research to his family Dr. and told her what he thought of her ineptness. He quit taking the drug and within days his constant hacking. He dropped weight and took up Jujitsu. He doesn’t need the drug anymore as he is now within the safe range with his BP.

All drugs have possible side effects. Every side effect that occurs has to be listed on the package insert. Don’t go down the rabbit hole of trying to self medicate and diagnose. Lisinopril is a safe drug used by millions of people. It does protect the kidneys in diabetics. Angioedema and cough are class effects which means all drugs in that class can cause it. Accupril is in the same class, not a statin. There are alternatives for those that have problems with the class of drugs. Statins sre also safe but have their own set of problems. Stick with a good pharmacy and don’t price shop. A good pharmacist can prevent many of the issues you might have in

A dry unproductive cough is undesirable side effect. Call the doctor and report it and they will move you up to a better class of blood pressure drugs like ARB’s.
Cozaar (losartan) was one of the first ARB’s released and I’ve had no problems.

Statins are a multi-billion dollar business. Unless a person has a genetic predisposition for high cholesterol called FH, many functional Dr's and cardiologists will not prescribe.

Here's a short link,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Odvt4EaGPLw

Other studies in the last 10 years show that they will extend your life expectancy by 4.6 days if taken for at least 5 years.

I took Lisinopril for a number of years with no problems except persistent cough. That is a common side effect. Then the last year I took it I noticed I had less and less energy. I just felt like sitting around all the time. I thought I was just getting old. Then one day I went to work for a friend putting in a septic system and ended up feeling faint when I bent over so much I had him take me home. I went to the ER and I had a heartbeat below 30 sometimes dipping into the low 20s. They said it was the Lisinopril and took me off it. Took about a month to get it out of my system.
