I'm 31 I gave it a shot for 3 years after leaving the Army. Moved down from Alaska to western Washington state for the job actually. Arrested the same guy 6 times in a month, always loaded up on meth, always let back out by the court in about 2 days. its now a racket to get more and more people into these rehab programs where they don't actually fix them, they just milk them for the cash that comes from the state and the feds who incentivize these addiction centers for having more patients, but they have no incentive to actually fix the addicts. Then it becomes the patrol officer's responsibility, and if something goes wrong in any of these arrests it is also hung on the head of the patrol officer. And meth heads are not fun to deal with regularly.

WA State Patrol Crime lab is worthless.. Hooked a guy up for res burg, clearly was him, i couldn't prove the value of the items were over $4k as the lady who owned them had just died and they were now gone besides the pictures of the jewelry I had taken the week before while processing the unattended death (she tried to crawl to the phone from the latrine but couldn't make it)... so they wouldn't bother to even match the fingerprints or the blood the dude left all over the house from cutting his hand while sawing through the floor boards from the crawl space (widened out the air duct)... dude had two prior burgs in California before coming up the coast...

My brother has been a dope addict for 20 years, 15 different rehabs. WA will even do all the leg work for a dope addict, sign them up for food stamps, benefits, apartment housing, you name it.. Its much easier to be a bum than to slug it out working at jack in the box or McDonalds. Good luck finding an affordable place to live if you make less than 90k a year. I worked 60 hours a week on night shift for a year straight because we had no ability to get any more officers as it is not a desirable position. These factors will starve our police departments to death and will make it much easier for them to justify some sort of woke state patrol based or federal "non-biased" police force which will further centralize the power.

Good young white men are done protecting and serving a country that hates them. Both the military and police forces around the country will continue to decline in the coming years.

My Brother in law just retired from the Marines. I thought for sure he was going to join one somewhere. He told me that tge criminals run the show and does not want any part of it. Especially as we all watch how they attack the Officers all the time.

God please keep they 19 fallen UBB miners out of trouble up there.

Had a recruiter talking to my boys at the state fair. Asked him if he would want his boys to join with the way things were going about the Afghanistan withdrawal time and said if not don't bother talking to my boys. He moved along. I will discurage them from any type of military services.

I know two young cops. (Both late 20s) One in my town (pop. 2000) and one in the next town over (pop 12,000). Both like the job a lot. Decent pay and good benefits.
Not all law enforcement jobs are the same.

there are good departments left but it only takes a toxic village board or city council or even county board to make most of your officers move on in a hurry.

Big Bend WI just had half their officers quit in one day , their cheif died suddenly last year of a heart attack and
village board members tried to disband the entire police department at a meeting last week it did fail but it was close, they see a budget line item typically the largest single budget in a Village or small city is the Police budget.

when streets has 5-6 guys and the PD has to have a minimum of 7 officers plus dispatchers and admins your looking at around 12 to run even a small department if you are going to have 2-3 squads on at one time that goes up

people want to be able to call and have a squad in 2-3 minutes that has been a reality for most smaller cities and villages but it comes at a price which really isn't that high around here it runs about 26-27 dollars per 100K of property value as it is coming from property taxes.

if your neighboring villages , cities or county are willing to not only pay for the service but pay more those officers will all have a job at an agency nearby that already knows them on a lateral transfer in days.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

My son is working towards attending the Naval Academy or Westpoint in the fall of 2027.

My daughter starts pursuing her degree in criminal justice/accounting this fall.

There are plenty of "good young" people ready to serve. We would likely have more if parents would stop running our country down to their kids.

Stop being part of the problem. Be part of the solution.

My youngest son is a Senior in High School and is convinced that he wants to join the Marines when he graduates. I have a long history of service on both my side and my wife's side of the family. Both of my grandfathers served, with one joing the FBI later in his career and ended his career as a Chief of Police after retiring from the FBI.

If would have laughed at you 6-7 years ago if you would have tried to convince me to hold one of my boys back from serving. Don't really know how to feel about it now. I'm going to support his decision, but the world is changing faster than I seem to be able to keep up with it.

I have a young cousin that always wanted to be a cop, he was hired in the NYC police dept, which by the way the starting salary blows...
He lasted 2 years, loved the job ,but couldn't stand the restrictions placed on them and the non support by the politicians. He works for the railroad now...

That place is a disaster, my nephew is an ADA for the Bronx, his job got easier, cause nobody gets arrested . I suspect most large cities is similar.

I guess you lie to yourself enough going by any of your post you believe the crap your are told. Not one thing good has came out of a single war or conflict since ww2. None of our security intrest have been furthered. But our young get left out to dry and get their hands tied behind their backs with rules and limitations that put them in danger.

Our military budget is more than the next 10 countries combined there shouldn't be anyone close to being able to challenge us. Yet..
