Hey all fellow T Man faithful !! Hope all are having a great winter wherever you are. I am just thinking about getting another AR and wanting something different as far as what one would be chambered for. I have been reading some on Hornaday's new 22 ARC. Claims are it is to be better than a 22-250..... one of my favorite proven cartridges. It's (22 ARC) fairly new and not many guns being made for it yet. But supposed to work good in a AR format. I have been looking at Ruger's American rifles in 22-250. But now I'll wait and maybe look into the 22 ARC guns as they come available ... Possibly build an AR , something I have never done. Hard for a beginner to do ?? Does anyone have a 204 Ruger in an AR rifle? I have a Windham Weaponary 224 Valkyrie and I really like it. A tack driver out to 300 yds plus. Any comments.... Thanks !!!!

Same. I have been reading and watching all the videos I can find on it. Running a bolt gun in 22-250 now. If it’s what they clam it is and in the 250 class in an AR. It will be bad medicine for coyotes.

Own 1, bought barrel, BCG, gas line, from Odin works, 200 rds of 6.5 Grendal brass, built it on SOTA, upper, plus lower. Their's no brass, ammo , load data, out there yet. Guessing after shot show. Have shot 12 rds working up rd. I'm using 224 Valkrie, data, with 75 gr Hornady bullets. This cold weather has put the halt to keep loading and conographing . But the 12 rds., look impressive, love the low recoil. Brass 2 staging, started 6mm ARC die ,wiith spindal removed, and 3 staging it through press, then using 22 ARC die, making sure not to roll neck. Going to take some of my 1st fired 6 ARC brass, and run few pcs., thru the 22 ARC dies, and see how that works. Soon as weather turns better, get this rifle going
Alot of people really don't understand what the ARC is gonna do . Basically your going to get out the box custom .22-250 performance from a factory offering..that's means being able to shoot heavy .224 projectiles. To shoot a lot of what people are loading in the arc in a .22-250 you need to have a custom barrel due to twist rates.if where talking about small bullets then it's a whatever deal heavies is where the real deal is. That and the fact you getting this stuff out of SHORT BARRELS. 16-18" that along with if you reloading, less powder and easy to find parent cases
That brass is hard to find...too. It would be a lot easier to just get a fast twist barrel for a 22-250 if heavy bullets is what u want. Brass for it wouldn't be like finding hens teeth...lol
I never understood wanting to shoot a heavy bullet in .224. If you need a heavier bullet, just go with a larger diameter. What if you want a lighter bullet in .224 when you own a 22ARC?

Better ballistics and sectional density. You can shoot a lighter bullet in a 22ARC or any fast twist 22 barrel, just have to slow them down a bit. Mono bullets you can sling them as fast as you want.

Have to disagree with the easier to XYZ .22-250 Looking at it from a budget I don't have either perspective. If you already hand load
Just neck down 6.5 Grendel brass , which isn't hard to find, people are already making barrels most , give it a few more months and y'all baable to get a half decent one for like $200 and building an upper takes like 30min at home without a gunsmith , can order everything to you door step.
And since it uses a 6.5 bolt face their probably going to be a lot of prefit barrels coming out for stuff Ruger Americans the various savages and rems that you can do your own barrel swaps on.
Also you need less powder then a .22-250 to get SIMILAR results. And before anyone starts comparing a 16-18" are in .22 ARC to a 22-26" in a .22-250 bolt gun just so you can say how better the .22-250 is....yeah that's kinda stupid . Needs to have a same barrels length same action to really compare either.
Regardless the ARC is really for us AR -15 ( NOT AR 10) guys
also gotta say when a majority of people don't shoot more then...what 40-80 rd a year .... The whole ammo availability thing is kinda a meh argument to a degree imo. Drop $300 get you a case of the crap and don't worry for the next decade
Now all that being said if you have the money to guys buy whatever get whatever built then it's kinda a non argument all I know is most people in my age range will look at it like this
Who go buy a .22-250 bolt for $800 , order a custom barrel for $300-$600 pay a gunsmith to rebarrel it just to hand load something that uses more powder thus cost more ..... When I can build my own AR for the price of the staring gun and have the ability to buy this Hornady ammo thats optimized for my needs off the self ? Or even further just neck down my already existing 6.5 Grendel brass and get similar performance?
Also it's not new persay. People have been doing the .22 cal in a 6.5 Grendel case since the Grendel came out. It's been proven to work Hornady just took it from a wildcat and Sammi speced it
