Correct,a fair beaver trap, poor otter trap.I only used the larger one I believe it was designated 44o dislocator. It was given to me by the guy that made them to try out,I forget his name. The gap is a safety feature to be able to remove your hand if caught. The adjustable tension trigger is handy feature for setting in current,in spring.

Yes, Species Specific Dislocator. The bars strike different vertebrae about 1 1/2 inches apart, one from above and one from below, separating them or dislocating them. They are paralyzed instantly. I have 36 of 330 size I use for wolverine, lynx, beaver and otter in Alaska. I also use the smaller 220's on both wolverine and otter. They work well and do exactly what they were designed to do. They have very strong steel springs compared to other brands. Their triggers are adjustable and really nice. I have checked carcasses and yes, they are snapped clean. They will put a bend in a 60 lb. beaver and still snap the vertebrae.
The animals will always be head down if you set the trigger/dog on top. Meaning it will come over the top of the head and push it down, while the bar on the bottom lift's the spine up, snap, it's over, no pinching them and waiting for them to drown or stop breathing. Light's out instantly. No struggle, no fighting the trap. They never move. If you are carless, the space will let you slip out of the trap, after if breaks your hand, arm, whatever tripped it.
I popped a 330 size across all 8 fingers. The pain stunned me. I woke up face down in the snow on a frozen creek 55 miles from my truck. I rode the snow mobile back with 3 out of the 8 fingers broke. The hard part was pull starting a snow mobile with 2 messed up hands, then the 55 mile ride back sucked too. Aspirin and determination got me home. Good traps, wish they were still made, I would buy some more. He even made a 12x12. I have one of them. It's crazy strong too.
My Super Wide will pull your broken down 4 stroke, up a hill backwards, with you on it!

John Koulish from Wisconsin is the one responsible for the Species Specific body grippers. I was one of his distributors for those traps. I also took hundreds of beaver using those traps..

I believe those pictured are 280s. Later on I will go through what I have and my old adds from the trapper and predator caller mags. Tom

So I can assume these are the 220 size? .... Got 10 of these in a buyout but I think the jawspread might be pushing the minnesota 220 dry land regs. A "buyout" huh? The things a guy does for entertainment.
I have nothing clever to put here.

Just flipping the species specifics over, allows for trigger and dog on the bottom' Which is how I set them most times. Tom
