Reminds me . . .

I played football while attending Holmen High School just north of La Crosse during the late 60s. The power house of the conference at the time Was Gale-Ettrick, a high school that combined Galesville and Ettrick. I believe their mascot at the time was Redmen, might be wrong on that, but today I see it's Red Hawks, and it certainly wasn't Red Hawks back then. Another team in the conference was from Trempealeau, the Trempealeau Bears. Trempealeau is a beautiful, little river town on the Mississippi River. Small team in numbers but tough kids I recall.

Well . . . they merged some time after I graduated from Holmen in 1970. Those in charge could've spent a little more time thinking about the arrangement of the towns in the name, or maybe come up with a brand spankin' new name, but no . . they just added Trempealeau on to the end of Gale-Ettrick. So now they're known as Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau.

Somebody should've stood back and looked at that long before they committed, as the moniker for that high school became . . . . GET HIGH.

They were really spoofing this on Fox. One picture shows a student with a sign behind Jill Biden that said I love Hunter High Teachers and Jill is clapping.

The sons name combined with the word "high", considered along with all the kids troubles lately, makes the play on words funny/tragic! Hunter High, Hunter ISA High. get it?
