Just spotted an ad for these in the F-F-G, and I need to know more. Looks like Mr. Harris doesn’t have a website, but is still active, guess I will give him a call or send an email soon for more info. Who uses these traps and likes them? Potential issues? I really like the MB-650, but Mr. Harris’ traps might just have the edge, with a supposedly better pan system. I’m not a long liner, wouldn’t mind shelling out the extra for a dozen at a time.

I have one that I bought off a guy that got one to test. Its sitting in the snow waiting on a coyote right now.

Slight drawback I have with it is the flat bar that comes off the middle of the trap as it doesnt agree with my normal way of bedding traps.

Thanks for that link Wolfdog- I had seen that thread, but just now watched Seldom’s videos. A very intriguing and tempting trap, but I am thinking I will stick to the 650s for now. I really like the NDZ, but I do NOT want parts that a chewing yote can bend. Those trigger parts aughtta be waterjet from spring steel at least. A very cool trap though that really has my respect.

The only problems I see with the Harris NDZ traps are with the dog levers. These two levers run under the pan to each jaw with quite a bit of overlap. When you wax the trap, these two dogless levers have a lot of contact area and can become frozen as the wax acts as glue. I also worry over the long haul, how rust will affect the movement of these two bars as well. Rust between these two levers will affect their ability to slide between each other. The other issue is there are two ears welded on to the pan on the underneath side that are slotted, plus one of the dog bars are also slotted. The slightest amount of mud getting in these areas will interfere with the operation. I’m just not sold on them yet. Lots of moving parts. At muddy sets, the trap would need to be basically pressure washed after a catch because there is no way to get under the pan area to clean the mud out unless you remove the two dog screws and remove the entire pan.

Look up Seldom who is a member on this site. He tested the Harris NDZ Traps and did some modifications to areas he saw were a problem. He liked the traps so much he sold all his Jake traps for new Harris traps.
Last year he noticed a large drop in the coyote population in his area, so he switched to beaver trapping to stay outdoors and got rid of all his Harris Traps.
Out of his kindness I was able to purchase some of his Harris Traps. He still has some but he keeps them for whenever the coyote population builds up again in the future.

if you PM him, I'm sure he will be happy to discuss the Harris Trap and the modifications he made to the trap. You will find a very interesting man who thinks outside the box. Whatever he does, he will do it to perfection.
The above post by DonnyTrapperBoy is one area Seldom made changes to his Harris traps to solve that issue. I would try to explain what he did, but in the end I would probably even made the Pope cuss from my attempt to explain it.

I have not had the chance to use my Harris traps this year due to health reasons, but I plan to work them into coyote sets next year.

That's how I feel about bent parts too.

If they know about the issue ...fix the problem.

I use them and am going to replace all my Bridger #2/#3's
Got 4 dozen so far.

Always get a deep catch with them.

beartooth trapr, how are they in snow (not that we have that much this year) and freeze thaw conditions?
