Those mountains are as lovely to ponder in any season, summer, fall or winter.

Feels good to prep things at your cabin, Im sure.

Thank you for the share, JR.

I just saw a youtube video of a muzzleloader moose hunt from your neck of the woods. Was that from last year?

Pro tip:
Add a fire extinguisher clamp on upright to hold oxygen bottle!

LOL, sad I'm thinking about this stuff

Seasons Greeting Trappers. Haven't forgot about you all, just been working iron this year making some money so I can support my trapping habit. I have been putting together #9 parts but cannot complete any traps as I did not receive all my parts. A bunch of my parts were lost in shipping and no one is fessing up to who is responsible for the lost parts or money. Pretty frustrating for sure. I was really excited to be back up and running building traps. Flying down to see my family in North Dakota for the holidays and will swing in and introduce myself to the people that made me the parts. Hopefully get this straightened out. I hate being behind on my orders more than I hate waiting for someone else. My springs should be here when I get home too. Will get out and start trapping when I get home. Happy Holidays and be safe out there this season.

I think once you are able to have a visit with the folks who made the parts, you’ll be on your way in straightening that kink and on to progress.

Enjoy the family , JR. Have a wonderful time, and safe travels.

After you "discuss" the problem of the lost parts and who might be responsible... be sure and let us know if you need bail or anything!

Merry Christmas,

Pete

Good morning and Happy New Year Trappers. Back on task building traps and even doing a little trapping. Went down South for the holidays visiting family and met with my new stamp company. Thanks for the offer of bail money Pete but didn't need it. Went rather well but still haven't seemed to get the who's responsible for paying for the extra made parts yet. Clean operation for sure but the shipping side of it sure could use some tightening up. Back up and running in the shop though putting in 10 hour days. [Linked Image]

Did make it out on the line and got a little gear out. For some reason my get up and go got up and went not allowing me to get much gear out. I was kind of glad as we had some serious winds for a few days and would have put a bunch out of commission. Was happy to see lots of moose, caribou, grouse (Spruce, Ruffed and Sharptails), ptarmigan and good pockets of hares this year. Followed a big wolverine all the way up the creek. Seemed to be just covering country and not really marking or hunting. The wolves were doing the same thing, just covering country, no pee posts or splitting up hunting, running right down the creek. Left some pee posts out for them and hung a few snares. Didn't see much for marten sign at least not as much as I expected after not trapping them very hard last year.

1st shed of the season on the trail to Pee Post Pass. Saw a couple bulls still carrying antlers.
Not a lot of snow but deep in some places. Like here for instance where I spent the better part of an hour digging out . [Linked Image]
[Linked Image]
Picked up this wolf pup the pack killed in the flats. A runt of the litter right on the trail. Thought it was a coyote at first until I saw the size of the paws. [Linked Image]
The first check yielded a coyote caught in two snares. His partner was pretty savvy and chewed up of a snare. [Linked Image]
Had a few days of beautiful weather and was able to work on the trail a bit. [Linked Image]

Ended up picking up that wolverine in the Catch-all set with nothing but a Kill-Squeak for bait. Same set as I caught the 3 lynx on last season. Caught a lot of fur of this set but this old boy tore it up more than all the critters I'd caught combined,
[Linked Image]
31# old male wolverine. Real nice color for my trapline but pretty short hair.
Weather was getting bad so I bailed out of their. Wind picked up and drifted that new snow into some inconvenient places.
[Linked Image]
Happy to get out of there and back to the truck. Tanana crossing was great. [Linked Image] Got the ATA Fur Auction and Fling coming up quickly so starting to prepare for that . It is the Alaska Trappers Association's 50th Anniversary this year. It ought to be a good one for sure. Gonna start selling my blood, maybe some guns and some other stuff to get moneyed up for the Fling Auction. We have some really nice items this year. You all be safe out there this season

Great to see you back on the line and producing #9's again! Starting the trapping season out with a wolverine isn't a bad start. Those soft deep pockets that swallow your sled are no fun at all.

Good luck selling blood and renting yourself out to raise funds for the fling auction items. LOL.

I see you like to make your own valleys in landscaping, in your mountains.

Even with harsh wind, the landscape is beautiful.

You are a hard worker , Iron Man .

And yes sir, time is flying to the Fling and Auction.

Welcome back JR., you catch many coyotes out there? I would think the wolves would keep them in check. How is that coyote fur? I caught one once years ago outside of Fairbanks and the furbuyer said they weren't worth anything because Alaska coyotes fur is to coarse. We don't have coyotes out where i'm at so just wondering what folks are doing with them and if they're able to sell them.

The ol' arm stretcher set.

Glad you are back out there. We found a dead wolf in the middle of the trail a couple years back. It got chewed on pretty good. Figured it was on the wrong end of some misunderstanding in the ranks and had to be eliminated.

What is the best drop off point for auction furs now that the Tannery is no more?
