My acct. switched me to this. I still gotta mail in about 10 paper forms tho.
There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.

I just received a letter from the IRS pushing me to E-file, touting all the benefits. i wasn't planning on switching from paper filing. After reading the WSJ article it seems I made a good decision.
Eh...wot?

We ran thru the taxes last weekend if you check basically anything that gets you a refund , BAM turbo tax wants $39 for fed and 39 for state to file.
of 4 sets of taxes in the house 1 had no additional charge the 19 year old with 1 part time job in 2023
but if your a student claiming expenses or a parent claiming a dependent 78 dollars in charges to file.
so much for if your taxes are simple no charge , more like if your taxes shouldn't even need to be filed because you claim nothing then it is free.
this seems like turbo tax is way to in bed with the IRS
any how printing out forms and filing paper this weekend.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I've E-filed for years and I understand what might go wrong, but it's not likely to turn my life upside down. I have one W-2 and a few investment accounts that I did not sell any of, so should be very simple. Ironically, the one year I had a tax accountant do my taxes, he missed a W-2 and I underpaid about $6,000 in taxes. That was a nice bill, along with the penalty. The tax accountant was not responsible for any of it. Regardless of who does your taxes, you are the only turnip squeezed if there is an error.

I also found that going through IRS.gov website to pick the "free-file" provider is quite helpful for navigating the labyrinth of crap for free filing.

The letter I received from the IRS wasn't about Turbo Tax or any of the other private filing services available. It was about the government run Free File program. That is what the WSJ article White linked is about as well.
