I might agree with you except I never seem to see the same guys working in service department.

the guys in the pits are career guys at least at the places that I know, some have been there since day one 30 years ago, they make big money
Boco most places do 200 changes a day X6 X 52
they are certified to meet industry standards set out by the manufactures and have the programs to re-set for the computers in the car

I still do all equipment and vehicles. Too many horror stories of loose drain plugs, stripped drain plugs, no filler cap, oil over filled etc.

I change my vehicles and all small engines myself. Everything gets mobile1 5/30 except the diesel excursion and Honda rancher, they get rotella T6 5/40. My son and two daughters still change their own as well.

I got in on that deal got 20 quarts 67.50 shipped

I don't even have a costco membership a co-worker was telling me about it , it was 30 store pickup or 32 shipped I gave him the cash and he had it shipped to my house.

it happens a couple times a year that they offer some deal like that.

the other deals I saw this last week put 5 quarts full synthetic about 21 dollars 4.20 a quart

I see Summit racing today has 16.99 for 5 quarts mobile one if you order 50 quarts it shows shipping as zero

The manuel for my 2021 Ranger says 6.2 quarts of oil. 6 quart is enough as 6.2 overfills.

probably 0.5 you can never get out of the oil pan some have even more than that

I was watching a video on the fluid extractor on several German cars the oil pans have the drain plug where it leaves around 2 quarts left in the pan, but the fluid extractor and pull it to almost dry since the filter is on top on most of them it is the new way to change oil. on many audi bmw vw and mercedes cars

Oil and grease are a lot cheaper than parts and labor. Changing your own oil also gives you time to look over the front suspension and exhaust. Rotating my own tires lets me inspect my brakes and wheel bearings. All gas vehicles get Mobil 1. The diesel truck and tractors get Rotella T6. Mowers get Rotella in the proper weight. Vehicles get changed every 5000 miles (most of our trips are 30 miles plus)or once a year, whichever comes first. Tractors, mowers, and 4 wheelers get changed once a year. I run hydraulic oil in the tractors much longer since it is not subject to internal combustion.

I help manage a lot of industrial equipment at work that uses various lubricants. Large air compressors, hydraulic units, vacuum pumps, gear boxes, etc. Most of the large volume units use USPI aftermarket filtration and there synthetic oil. Samples are pulled monthly or quarterly and sent to a company called Wear Check. They send us a report on condition and when the filters and oil are recommended to be changed. Money well spent for high volume use equipment with large reservoirs. Not very cost effective for personal vehicles unless you just want a check-up to see what wear metals and contaminants are present.
