Any of you have any success with planting iron clay peas for a summer time food plot for whitetail deer?

Hope you don’t have a high deer density…otherwise they’ll never make it. Or have about a 50ac field to plant and hope some make it.

Yup, unless you have some means of fencing it off, tall electric, they won't get much over six inches before getting mowed to the ground.

Planting I&C peas for deer in smaller plots is like pouring money onto the ground and walking away.

One of the slickest plot fence designs I've seen is eight foot t-posts with two cattle panels one above the other. When you want to let the deer in you fold to bottom panel up and secure it to the upper one.

On my farms deer prefer soybeans over everything else for summer forage. When I’ve tried I/c peas they will eat them but nothing like soybeans.

Just curious why you would want to plant a summer plot? Any browse and local agriculture is in full swing during that time and food sources aren't limited.

Great time of the year to have a soil builder planted like buckwheat, etc., to prep your plot(s) for the Fall.

I can tell you from experience that if you plant 3 acres in my immediate area it’ll look like you planted a field of toothpicks within a couple weeks
