I used the orange bottle. I think leaving them in the pickle for three or 4 days instead of 24 hours is the key.

Thank you for sharing your product and process. What process did you use to "work" the pelt or soften the pelt and how much time? With these low prices on most of the fur I catch in WI no better time to try it out and learn before I quit totally.

It takes about a week total to tan a hide. That includes rehydration, salting, rehydrating, pickling, degreasing, neutralizing and stretching. All I did when stretching or breaking the hide was to stretch them by hand every couple of hours until they were dry. I've got a lot of arthritis in my hands, elbows and shoulders and it didn't bother them at all. The prices were low and shipping cost more than the tanning last year so I tanned them myself. I'm taking my furs to an auction next Saturday. I can sell or not sell. If they only offer $9 bucks for red fox they will be coming home with me and I'll be tanning those too. I can use them myself. Same with the bobcats. With the prices I've seen and the work involved in getting them, I'll keep them, make something and sell the something.

In today's market this is the way to go folks.

I use the orange bottle for my tanning also

I'm going to the VTA auction on the 9th. They have 7 buyers. Sold some beaver pelts, fox, coon and possums to GFW awhile back. Won't be doing that again.

I attended an indigenous fashon show today, and sold 3 tanned and blocked beaver for $402.50.And some other tanned fur as well.Lots of fur in the collections.
Also made 4 new contacts for future ongoing purchases of both tanned fur and fur pieces for pom pom makers.
Fur market is alive and well.

Thanks Spike and nice fur. Our VTA sale is the 16th. Had thought about selling to GFW, but I’ll take your advice and not do that. Eric

When I look at the calendar of events for VTA it only mentions fhe auction at Issac Walton league in Spotsylvania courthouse. Where is the one on the 16th?

I'm glad you guys had success with the orange bottle, I never could figure it out. Breaking the hides after tanning was the tough part for me, and maybe I messed up one of the steps along the way. I've got a coyote I shot during gun season that's waiting to head down to Sleepy Creek, I'll happily pay someone who knows what they're doing to save my time for other hobbies.

Those pelts look great Spike!
