Got on the board today after 10 days of checks. 22lbs. I’m excited for number 2 of the year!

27 lbs is a very nice otter.

He'll think that until he goes to skin and flesh his first otter. lol

I've gotten better over the years, but my first otter when I was a kid really made an impression. I'd been doing cats and was still in the process of perfecting clean skinning beaver, when I got my first otter I thought I was going to rip the hide off it like I did a cat or a mink. Boy was that an eye opener!

Honestly so would I, as long as I don't have anything else to do. I like working on fur and have always liked otters, I'm just slow at them. I can probably skin, flesh and stretch half a dozen yotes in the time it takes me to one otter, but I'd much rather be working on the otter. And with the price of our ugly timber coyotes I'd probably come out ahead at the sale on the one otter also.

[Linked Image] Had a beaver show up out of nowhere today and jam his head in a 220 set for rats . Nice surprise.

One year the river flooded and all my traps were many feet underwater. All I had left to set were 220's so I set up a dozen of them on steep banks that beaver were using and caught 9 beaver out of 12 traps first night. All 220's right behind the ears.

Most of the time I don't have time to measure my beaver before I go to a sale but had that luxury today. Out of 137 beaver I put up since the last sale 20 were SB's, 65 B, 41 XL, 7 L, and 2 LM, 2 M.

Uglier beaver you have not seen. Rubbed, old scars and bit up bad . Hopefully ugly still works in today's market....my first run of December caught beaver looked a lot nicer than this batch.

Musty those are some big beaver and some beautiful put up. Nice job. That new spot you have is some beautiful looking country.

BP, I hear you about ugly looking beaver. I caught and put one up yesterday that was a blanket but the fur was terrible looking. The beaver had hardly any fat and there were a lot of puss bubbles everywhere. It's tail looked like an oar someone fought off a gator with. I expect it was dying of old age. Hope you do well at the sale today. Safe driving.
