My favorite aquarium fish are little tiny sunnies of all type. Feed them the shrimp and watch them eat......jk

You can buy rosy red minnows and regular fathead minnows at most fish hatcheries, very, very cheaply. Many counties have fish sales, for stocking ponds, that sell minnows very cheaply too.
Freshwater Farms of Ohio, which is near me, sells fathead minnows for $60.00 per half gallon or $106.00 gallon. That comes out to about $60.00 per 1250 and $106.00 per 2500 adult fathead minnows. That comes out to less than 5 cents each for 1250 and about 4 cents each for 2500 adult fathead minnows. That's 60 cents and 48 cents per dozen.

I got these from a local bait shop (Pawnee City) that got them somewhere around Kansas City. These are a bit big for smaller crappie but they manage to get them in their mouth.

I watched a bait trapper dip out 30 gallons out of one trap, they own a bait store also and you get a scoop, about a hundred, for four bucks. I believe baitrunners around Brookings raises them. In the past anyways. $4 bucks buys a dozen here!
