I think the worst thing is that I don't have one to try out. I want to shoot every gun I see and I think Hickock45 is living the life I should have.

beautiful gun and holster

The rifle has no will of its own it may be used for evil but there are more good men than evil men and evil will be corrected by good men with rifles.

Good to see older pistols in very good shape Ruger bearcat is one of the earlier models. Therefore, it is a two screw model therefore no transfer bar. If you have a cartridge under the hammer, and you drop the pistol on the hammer it could possibly shear the tip of the sear or break the hammer safety notch thereby, causing an AD. They are in my very good pistol category. Definitely not the spray and pray, magazine, fed, self-defense, pistol, combat, pistol, or just go bang at the range type of pistol, but nonetheless makes an old man smile when he sees one

PS Ruger did a recall on the two screw models so that one may have a transfer bar under the hammer that I can’t see. I think the old-timers used to say load one skip one load four more when you close the loading gate and car to hammer and set it down you’re on an empty chamber. Congratulations on securing a beautiful piece of American history.

PPS Ruger, single action pistols, always had one gotcha and that was the ejection rod housing attachment screw.
You can get ahead of the game by removing that housing, cleaning the spring, rod, and housing cleaning the side of the barrel that it covers and putting a drop of blue Loctite on that screw when reassembling.

I guess I need to do that with mine. It is still in good condition but not nearly as nice as the one MT got. My only complaint is that I can't find ammo that shoots to point of aim. 20 years ago I had some that did but they are no longer available.

The Bearcat makes a great dispatch pistol due to the small size and weight and ability to shoot shorts. I'd like to have one of the new ones made for Lipsey in SS with the adjustable sights.

They are a great size, but I always end up getting rid of everything without adjustable sights. Now off to look up the lipsey model edp referd to above.
https://www.lipseys.com/itemdetail?itemno=RUKSBCA-4

No where as since looking with the hump in the back to hold the adjustable sight and the thick tall plastic front sight. I don't think I would pay what they are asking for it over a single 6 or 10 with adjustable sights without being able to look at it in person first. Now the 3" fixed sight mode they have looks sharp but if it's like every single single action I have had with fixed sights it would shoot to point of aim. And I don't tend to keep them long like that.

That's a very nice revolver you got. Shoot it and let us know how it does.

When I was a boy my hunting mentor hunted a lot from a horse down here. There were only two pistols he would carry a River Red Hawk with interchangeable cylinders and a Ruger Bearcat. I don’t know that I ever saw him fishing off a bank anywhere that he didn’t have that Bearcat on his side. I have many fond memories of those times and can’t count the amount of cotton mouths that met their demise at the business end of it. Thanks for sharing and bringing back great memories from my youth.

Doing things with great guns result in having many great memories .. Ruger even though they do not have the long time history of some other firearms makers some of the greatest firearms even produced And with those guns that where the backbone of a company that has now established a reputation for it's dependability and design
