Why would anyone want a revolver over a polymer like a Glock? Are revolvers outdated?

but they never fail, the magazine is always in tight no slide racking or stove pipes....pull the trigger and it goes bang....if you need more than six you probably shouldn't have been the IMHO

I wouldn't trade my colt python or annaconda for a dozen plastic pistols. I have polymer sig sauer pistols but they aren't even in the same galaxy as a nice silky smooth revolver. IMO

With regard to .22 rimfire handguns, in a revolver you can load shorts or other loads with lower energy than a long rifle round and it will function the same. The low power rounds won't cycle many semiautos. That makes a revolver my preference for dispatch.

In centerfire, revolvers are simpler to operate than semiautos and more reliable. That factor is important to some who are less adept with firearms. Small semiautos have the advantages of better concealment and more round capacity, but the round capacity advantage is of no use to a person that can't clear a jam. My wife, for example, does not have the hand strength to cycle the slide on my EDC. She would if she would work at it, but she won't work at it.

Revolvers still have their place, maybe not as front line go to war pistols but they'll get done 95% of the shooting that needs done.

And in this modern day age of Tupperware guns with permanently ON bang switches we forget the one inherent design feature that revolvers do not have. The requirement of linear uniterupted feeding resulting in the propensity to become inoperable if the feeding cycle isn't just so.

In that case I'd rather have six readily available at the pull of the trigger than a maybe if things get hinky.

But they are both just simple mechanical tools.

BTW I'm a stalwart believer in the penultimate design of John Moses Browning, may God rest his soul, the 1911. The 1911 is most likely the most maligned self loader ever created. But I would counter with if ran AS DESIGNED AND IN SPEC it functions as reliably as the other controlled round feed mechanism that is still held up as the weapon of choice when dangerous large critters are to be killed, the 98 Mauser.

Horses for curses I think. They all have their place. My EDC is a polymer pistol in either 10mm or 357 SIG. if I want to hunt deer etc with a handgun I'll pick the Freedom arms Mod 87 in 454 Cas. ... I don't think there is a polymer pistol out there that could handle something like the 454. But they all have their place.

Don't get me wrong, I own a few polymer framed pistols for specific reasons.

But a Ruger single six convertible is a permanent fixture on the side by side. As a trapping gun/wabbit & whatever else gun. It's a 1977 model and shows it's age. But still shoots good. I just ordered a set of Williams fire sights for it this morning. My eyes aren't what they used to be !

And my Smith air weight 38 spl is on my person most of the time.

I see a Smith M&P 22 mag in my future, because I'm a huge 22 mag fan.

Yes, a Glock is only out-uglied by a Hi-Point, but they go bang every time the trigger is squeezed,so for that reason I don't cuss them much.
I don't own one myself, but my wife has one in 357 Sig.

Agreed. I have a Colt King Cobra as one of my carry pistols. Awesome handgun! All my pistols are revolvers. I just prefer them to semi-autos.

I shot what do you folks back east would call a 10 point bull elk in the neck about 8 inches behind his right ear the bullet crushed 7 inches of vertebrae and lodged under the hide behind the left shoulder. The elk dropped where he stood . Total penetration was approximately 20 to 21 inches. The bullet was a 385 grain hollowpoint designed by Remington to be used as a Saboted slug in a 12 gauge loading at 2100 FPS. With a dose of 29 grains of H110 my revolver would push that same bullet to 1740. I know there are 50 caliber, semi automatic pistols out there. The 50 caliber A&E desert eagle come to mind, but they deliver nowhere close to the velocities and bullet weights of the 500 S&W magnum. My revolver, digest loads easily that would destroy a slide action semi auto. I own a Glock and it will be on my hip this next week in the deserts of southern Arizona. Like others have said different tools for different applications.

I grew up with, and qualified with revolvers, I still prefer the revolver, not that there's anything wrong with any of the semis running around, but there's something about the dead simple reliability of a revolver. and there's no casings flying around .

They have there place. I have both,. Like said about one thing is revolves are more versatile. I can shoot light to very heavy loads in my 45 colt Blackhawk. I can swap the cylinder and shoot 45acp. And have a cylinder loaded tith more than one type of ammo. For example goo heave loads and snake shot. Simple to rotate the cylinder to shoot a different load. A Blackhawk in 357 can shoot 357 and 38 special and if you have a 9mm cylinder it can shoot that also. So if you run across any of the 3 you can use them.

I load ammo and it's also nice not looking for my brass.
