I may take a few hours off work and drive the half an hour to see it if we get the right weather. Won't be another one this close in my lifetime. My sisters house is right on the edge, 13 seconds of total eclipse.

We had a full eclipse here a few years ago. It's actually worth seeing with your own eyes. Not something you can just pay to have staged, or go see anytime like some exotic animals or famous places. Best place to be is somewhere with good vista, to appreciate how the sun becomes dimmer and then everything goes completely dark everywhere as far as your eyes can see abruptly in a matter of seconds, but probably not a rooftop because all the sickle-shaped shadows look weird, too and are also worth seeing (but we were on the roof of a tall building, and it was fine, too). Something like a hilltop with a few trees, maybe, but definitely somewhere with an unobstructed view, from where you can see far. Telescopes on lawns sound like wasting the opportunity.... much more stupid than filming a concert with your cellphone instead of watching. Here, we had a quiet sunny summer day, but when it got dark, strong wind started blowing, so it felt completely as if something huge had swooshed over us. You'll have the time to see the shape of the Sun changing in the minutes before the eclipse, but a smoked glass is enough for that, no need for fancy equipment. We used old 5" floppy disks. I did take a few pictures

Barely out of the path of totality, probably only a sliver of the sun will be exposed. Was in totality 7 yrs ago....Pretty surreal.

I need to drag out that trash can full of old 3 D glasses I collected in the 70's and advertise them as enhanced viewing glasses and drive north. It's like crossing the equator once you've done it I guess it isn't as exciting from then on. I do like all the commentary though especially the arm chair eye doctors on the tv.

somewhere around here I have extra welding glass
I bought them so the kids could watch the eclipse at the library watch party years ago.
it is definitely something to see that you don't see every year or but maybe a handful of times a total eclipse in your life time.

The last one was ok. If I'm at home that day we are just in the edge of I'm at work nearly on the centerline. Maybe im weird but I don't see the big deal and can care less. It gets dark every night and will be over pretty quickly. Maybe im missing something? KY afield went cat fishing during the last one and the cats did start biting. Probably the best think I can think of to do The only "big deal" I can relate to it would be that it could be a memory spent with loved ones. Something you've missed a lot of.

That's the best point ever. Especially with it looking like I'm going home this week for a whooping 15hrs after subtracting 5 hrs of drive time from my long 20hrs off when I make the shift change switch from days to night. It would be a full 24 hrs but well one will be a 16 hr shift if 2 are I may not go home at all. But I did have 5 days in a roll off last week.

According to the map, this eclipse is going to pass right over my house here in nw ohio. People are renting out spots in their yards and fields for decent money. And they are getting it. Apparently people coming from all over the globe to see this event, should i film it, lol. What if it's cloudy, or raining? They are neat to see but this will be the last for a long while, that's probably why all the fuss. Be sure to use REAL solar glasses or filters to view unless you want to lose your eyesight.

It is cool to see birds and chickens go to roost in the daytime. My brother is going to Arkansas, renting campground spot, pontoon barge, and it could be cloudy.

There is a solar eclipse every day in most of the world when the earth blocks the sun. I sleep thru most of them. Ummm, no there is not. "Are there eclipses everyday? Anywhere from four to seven times a year, our Earth, Moon and Sun line up just right to create the cosmic-scale shadow show known as an eclipse. The Moon's orbit around Earth is tilted relative to Earth's orbit around the Sun. This tilt is the reason why we have occasional eclipses instead of eclipses every month."

If you've never been in the middle of a total solar eclipse on a clear day, you have no idea what you are missing. I've seen two, one in about 1980 in Goldendale Washington, and the other a few years ago near Eugene Oregon. While you're watching that "silver ring" overhead, take a few seconds to take a 360 degree look at the horizon. It's worth driving aways to get in a good position if the weather is good.

Providence Farm -
Glad your getting to spend time with your family. I used to work a lot of overtime as you do, especially while raising the kids.
Think I read somewhere it was 50/50 whether you might have to be on the job.

It's going almost directly over me. I'm excited to see it. Why not enjoy something cool from the cosmos. It doesn't happen often. I'm going to relax and enjoy. You won't be disappointed. Try to find an open piece of high ground to view it from, and during the few minutess of total eclipse take a quick 360 view of the horizon. Pray for good weather.

The pray for good weather jogged my memory. We actually had a clown call into us at work a couple of weeks ago and asked us this " if it's cloudy on April 8th, are they going to postpone the eclipse until the 9th?"

Leading up to the last eclipse, we were camping next to some modern hippies from California. They were traveling with FIVE cats. Dude had a canoe with more gizmos on it than most bass boats. A couple from way out of state came to see the eclipse, but it was foggy. The dingbat woman was driving and passed another car in the fog and hit a young fella from Scottsbluff, killing him and her husband. She lived of course. I watched it from the SE corner of Nebraska with my Brother and his wife. The coolest thing to me was that coming out of the eclipse, the shadow leaving the earths surface was traveling 1500 miles an hour. That's the speed it takes to travel around the world in 24 hours. It was fast. I'll watch the partial eclipse from here and it'll be maybe 75% eclipse.
Life ain't supposed to be easy.
