Farmers seem to be prepping for corn and peanuts in VA over the last week. Lots of fields getting sprayed and turned over.
Anyone looking for points? Been on several good hunts inbetween the rains. Wow! Those are much better than we find here in PA. Lisa & I search the plowed fields & stream beds at low water
TILL THAT DAY.....

I found two in my yard with my metal detector. I found out that later natives made some out of metal such as copper. The larger copper one I found is for a spear, I was told by an expert on Indian lore.
More and more when I go anywhere I find myself keeping track of where the nearest rest room is.

The red point on the arrowhead is more likely from a mineral causing the red color.
I have several chert rocks I picked up in the Bighorn Basin in Wyoming, all different colors, yellow, red, dark gray, white. My professional geologist buddy to me it's caused by whatever mineral is present when the rock was formed. These rocks are the size of a big baked potato. Down here that red is likely caused by heat-treating the chert.

That Red tip is awesome on that point. Believe that may indicate that it was heat treated at some point??? Nope, that is just normal color banding for jasper. At least it looks like jasper to me. I have some that look like that with yellow and red jasper. Some of my Kalapuya points I've found in plowed fields:

Nope....no jasper here...that is Flint River chert that has been heat-treated.

Nope....no jasper here...that is Flint River chert that has been head treated. Swamp Wolf, I'm far from an expert, but that is what I've always been told as well. Different than banding in the material. If I'm not mistaken, it's almost always at the tip where you'd expect to see the heat treat and if it's in the body, then it's just the color variation?

Well-documented in the southeastern US that Native Americans heat treated chert and agatized coral. It changes the color..just like WB's point.
I'll post some layer when I get time...
