There’s this little pond by me it’s right outside a neighborhood and it’s full of muskrat haven’t scouted it for next season yet but hoping too soon I see a bunch of huts and it must not be too deep but anyway what is a good way to set a muskrat hut with footholds because I will probably set muskrat runs with coni’s but I want to try something new

Conibears & colony traps are very productive if the conditions are there.

You planning on using a canoe/jonboat or just wading around the shoreline?

If wading, a deep hole or soft mud can show up anywhere. Be safe!

I live in Alaska so we trap muskrat through the ice. I usually use #1 coil springs.

A lot of you will already know this but i will add it here for those that may not.

Most scouting is done during open water. Mark all active runs & underwater holes with a reed or stick. If you're in remote area you can put flagging ribbon on these.
Once ice comes you can still find runs by looking for air bubbles if ice is clear enough.

nice in ohio its 70 degrees the only thing I'm trapping is nuisance groundhogs and some nuisance muskrats on open water but there isn't huts
