Twist the wires together and place them dead center In the opening.

The less wire in the coons face the less refusals you will have.

If you are after all animals entering a cubby or traveling down a trail with these size BG traps, you may consider the trigger on the bottom in an L shape. I have caught a substantial number of weasels in coon cubbies set like this when I lived in MN and have taken that lesson with me for 40 years. Not a fan of pans on BG triggers as too much extra for me when the pan is geared for 1 sided entrance. With the trigger on the bottom, you will get a trigger trip either way but you will catch rabbits, squirrels, birds etc. (not a good season here unless I get at least 2 accidental pheasants in a trail set up like this with them). I have caught many mink on coon trails (and a few beaver) by the water with that trigger configuration and am pretty much set in my way for these. ................the mike

When using 160s In trail sets the trigger placement Isn't as important as height off the ground. Get that trap at least 4" off the ground. And put some derbies under the trap jaws to close up that space.
I was never In favor of the trigger On the bottom In dry land sets. I think you get more body catches and my stabilizers don't allow for the trigger to be on the bottom.

I don't use purchased stabilizers. I make a stabilizer out of a section of 2 by 2 and then drill holes and put two 10 inch pole barn nails in to hold the wood from twisting. I screw in a 160-220 trap holder and that gets my 160 about 3-5 inches off the ground. I too don't like all that maetal around framing the trap. I put my triggers in the center in a V formation. I ave maybe 1 out of 50 plus with even 1 front leg in the trap. My 160s are all Dukes. Nothing every more then some twisted grass on the top so they don't try to climb over the trap.

TrapperE if you're trapping in Ohio check your regs because 220s and 160s are illegal on land in OH

I keep one wire straight and the other bent at about a 45 or more degree angle. Then slide the trigger off center with the angle bent wire towards the inside.

I set a lot of grassy trails with 220 sized raps. A friend showed me how he makes a circle trigger out of a coat hanger and it holds up great. It gives them a hole to shoot for.
