Don’t buy that tick eating garbage that’s a myth possums and skunks are covered with ticks in the warmer months 100s of tick on them. That story was from poor research looking for a better result on the need for possums unless the possums I catch were carrying their lunches. Possums are prolific breeders they need to be controlled like any other critter for their own good.

Once they get established they are as hard to control as the coyotes have become to deal with. I’ve noticed how much they increase in numbers when other species take a hit from nature my catch has tripled some years.

Possums could never eat as many ticks as the birds they kill would have eaten anyway if you do the math. The tick eating was thought to come from incidental grooming more so than an intended meal.

Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

I/m of the opinion (along with others) that possums get a bad rap of being some kine of super ground nest predator. I aint buying it. They are slow as molasses most days and pretty docile. I let them go now. Don't blame you if you don't but I do. Yeah, anything in abundance can cause issues, but unless that happens I lift them up by the tail and set them down next to me and re make the set. Pick them up again when I leave and toss them in the grass along the way.

Yes, horse people go nuts if they are around. Maybe this is why I let them go in part. I've liked every possum IIve dealt with more than horse people. So there's that.

The tick eating was debunked. Yeah, they eat a few but nothing like once thought. Want the ticks gone? Get a few chickens.

even a sloth could eat eggs if it wanted too actually could be really good at it with the ability to climb.
in the dark birds , don't do much
ever picked a chicken off the roost in the dark , the biggest meanest rooster that would spur you all day , is just a clump of feathers after the sun goes down and the lights are off.

finding videos of them eating turkey eggs like the Delta waterfowl videos of racoon eating a nest of eggs were a little harder to find , this is a NZ example they had the money for the research but running a bird off in the night and chowing down doesn't take any super strength or quick ninja skills
https://teara.govt.nz/en/video/10117/eating-eggs

found a couple of possum eating eggs in a chicken coup , didn't even harm the chickens grab an egg have a meal , come back for a meal another time.

much like your illegal law service can be very effective in reducing your Canadian goose population in the business park with a sprayer of week killer and canola oil , go around spraying weeds and spray the eggs doing it in plane sight , oops a little over spray.

when you rely on a survival rate to stay as a species and you kill the breeding the number drop fairly soon

I've caught 100s of grinners In live traps and foot holds and I have yet had one actually play possum.

dog barking 0200 they play just long enough for you to pull the dog off and look for the shovel come back and they are gone.

learn to bring the big hoe with when dealing with it at 0200 . pull the dog off enough to get a good swing it means fewer times dealing with the same one.

but in a trap they don't seem to play possum , your not a dog.

Wolf the female's are the target and when it's a bonus 8 for one at times well that's getting ahead of you want to help the ground nesting birds. Taking out a male does little another male will take it's place and breed the females. Take out the female and reduction of population happens. Little ones grow up to big ones that reproduce so...
