I/m of the opinion (along with others) that possums get a bad rap of being some kine of super ground nest predator. I aint buying it. They are slow as molasses most days and pretty docile. I let them go now. Don't blame you if you don't but I do. Yeah, anything in abundance can cause issues, but unless that happens I lift them up by the tail and set them down next to me and re make the set. Pick them up again when I leave and toss them in the grass along the way.
Yes, horse people go nuts if they are around. Maybe this is why I let them go in part. I've liked every possum IIve dealt with more than horse people. So there's that.
The tick eating was debunked. Yeah, they eat a few but nothing like once thought. Want the ticks gone? Get a few chickens.
even a sloth could eat eggs if it wanted too actually could be really good at it with the ability to climb.
in the dark birds , don't do much
ever picked a chicken off the roost in the dark , the biggest meanest rooster that would spur you all day , is just a clump of feathers after the sun goes down and the lights are off.
finding videos of them eating turkey eggs like the Delta waterfowl videos of racoon eating a nest of eggs were a little harder to find , this is a NZ example they had the money for the research but running a bird off in the night and chowing down doesn't take any super strength or quick ninja skills
https://teara.govt.nz/en/video/10117/eating-eggsfound a couple of possum eating eggs in a chicken coup , didn't even harm the chickens grab an egg have a meal , come back for a meal another time.
much like your illegal law service can be very effective in reducing your Canadian goose population in the business park with a sprayer of week killer and canola oil , go around spraying weeds and spray the eggs doing it in plane sight , oops a little over spray.
when you rely on a survival rate to stay as a species and you kill the breeding the number drop fairly soon
