I trapped In North Carolina and South Carolina for 14 years. The trapping was great and the people were even better.I also trapped In North Dakota and Mississippi and trapped for 6 weeks In Canada.
I would never move to any of those places.

Thanks for the reply.
Mississippi is the only plase you mentioned that I've trapped.
Mybee 7 years and it was a great experience for me the peaple were very friendly and the fur was plentiful.
I've trapped in Iowa Kansas Oklahoman Arizona Colorado and of course Mississippi and Wyoming.
They were all different. As far as friendly folks I would have to say it's a toss up between ks and Ms.
Iowa Arizona and Wyoming have been the best states for long lining and fur production.
As far as all around laws fur quality friendly peaple and ease of getting permission I would say Wyoming would be my pick. I may be abit biased. I've lived hear since 94.
Iowa ks and Ms would be my second third and 4th choices.
I trapped both Colorado and Arizona before they lost most of there conventional trapping.
They were both great fur states.

I Trap in Wisconsin and WV. WV is easier to trap but Wisconsin has more to trap.

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

NY,Pa<NJ ,WY,VA, ND, Miss and NM. Va. is great, but I couldn't pick one or two NY has tremndous amount of fur and a lot of open land. I got to trap lions in NM when it was legal, made a lot of lifetime friends in all the places I went. Don't know if trapping schools count I went to Texas and Ind. and had some memorable times there! Would double up on all of 'em!

It's a good time to be a trapper!

Being in the military, I've the chance to trap IN, KY, OK, KS, SD, AK, HI, LA, and PA. I think KS and SD were the most friendly and had a good variety of fur. AK was amazing but it's hard for a short timer to find a place to trap that isn't already claimed. I partnered with a guy that had a line and trapped some around town. Each place has it's plusses and minuses weather terrain, species, land accessibility or climate.

Never done much state hopping, but if I had to up and move tomorrow for trapping it would be to a state with higher quality of fur and more land access. Somewhere that doesn't have cottonmouths too

Maybe North/South Dakota or Montana. Possibly even Idaho

Gotta live up to the nickname...
