Long story short, Texas requires a birth certificate to renew your DL (one time thing they started a few years ago apparently)

Wife thought she had a birth certificate but turns out it is not (looks like one)

For her to get a copy of her birth certificate online it is looking like a 6mo wait.

My question is, do you folks that live in New York state have to request one online as well or can you go somewhere (county health department here if you were born in Texas)?

I am not above flying to Westchester county New York and getting one in person if that is an option.

Thanks

There is a diff in a "copy" of a birth certificate and an actual "certified" birth certificate... I'm guessing they wont take copies at the DMV FYI.

X2, I had to get an original BC for a passport. I paid extra money to expedite the BC.

That original BC is part of the "Real ID" legislation passed post 9/11, you ain't getting on a plane or a passport without it.

Yet it's racist to require ID to vote.

I tried to get a passport pre 9/11 and showed up at
the county building in the city where I was born with
what I was then told was actually just a certified copy
of my birth certificate.

Now, mind you, I had been using this document my whole life
to prove my citizenship & prove I was, indeed. an actual
human/person with no issues up to that point.

Now I was informed I would have to go to Albany, the state capitol
to gain possession of my actual, legal, birth certificate for a fee
& a 6 hour round trip drive.

I said the heck with that, and still to this day have no passport,
nor my real, legal, actual birth certificate.

Without a legal birth certificate or a passport, I guess that
makes me a non-person !!! LOL, LOL,LOL !!! laugh

What a bunch of bull S ---! I do have a passport and an enhanced drivers license to get into Canada. beuracratic nonsense. I don't believe that NY requires a birth certificate to renew a drivers license.

Many years ago I had to get a replacement birth certificate with the embossed stamping that indicates authentic. I was told to go to the village/town where I was born and request the document. In NY, the birth certificate has to also get filed in the village/town of the birth. This is the village/town of the hospital you were born in, not the place your parents lived. My birth certificate replacement was accepted as part of my documentation to get my passport. My guess is that you might be able to accomplish the process with phone contact or a letter to the village/town office. If your egg cracked at home, well you had a certificate, the documentation was duplicated and filed somewhere.

Here you go to the local town hall and request a copy, You show them your drivers license and any other ID you have and you get a certified stamped birth certificate in a few minutes.
