Interesting.
Recent studies have found that some hares found in northern Pennsylvania, which is near the southern edge of their range, don't completely molt into their winter coats and stay mostly brown.
The article specifically mentioned Yukon hares saying that our hares were significantly bigger. Another adaptation?

In PA they have been seen as far west as Warren County. They are a sight to see compared to a cottontail rabbit

Mine are a little further along in the cycle but still have a substantial amount of white. They are chasing each other around here like a bunch of wild animals ! I remember bunny population explosions up there that would be hard to exaggerate. I've never seen anything like it since.

That does not look like a snow shoe hare. The only other it could be would be a artic hare.

How long does the process take? Takes a few weeks. That does not look like a snow shoe hare. The only other it could be would be a artic hare. Correct, its a Snowshoe. The Arctic hares are much bigger and dont change, they stay white.
