Considering getting a battery jump pack to assist in starting vehicles, mowers, atvs, etc. Have around 10-12 battery started things around and seems constantly one is dead requiring several hours of charging or switching out a battery. Are the battery jump packs worth having to get a mower or truck started and at least moved to a closer location to charge or drive to get a battery? How long do the jump packs hold a charge before being ineffective? Are they just also going to be dead when they are needed? Worth it?

I advise that you need to check/charge them monthly.....harbor freight has good powerful packs that you can purchase a 2 year replacement plan for. Some of them have air compressor also and lights.

I have a dewalt jump pack. Has air compressor too. Plug it into 120 outlet to charge and it stays charged for a long time. Its big but you can jump stuff multiply times before charging back up. Im too cheap to buy a battery for my riding mower, just jump it. I never used one of the small ones.

I have had mine save me 4 times this year on the road and a few times around the farm. It's from Napa with compressor built in. I think little over 100 or so had one the same but without the compressor for 79.

I keep it in my old truck and check the button that shows charge level about once a month and take it and charge it as needed.

I was going to get the ¶one with the most cranking amps they had but it was 2 x the price,3x heavier, and larger. Figured they would not last more than 5 to 7 years and my single cab truck has limited room so went with the cheaper and smaller one that was mid range priced.

I have dewalt and would not buy it again. It is jump pack and air compressor. My beef is that the 'dashboard' display on the jump pack stays on all the time which is a constant voltage draw. The battery is draining the second you take it off the charger. After a few days, you are already down a couple volts...kind of defeats the purpose in my mind. Not a good thing when I planned to keep it in the vehicle for emergencies on the road. I also have used the small jump boxes roughly the size of vcr tapes. Those have worked well and held a charge for a long time even when left in the vehicle for a long time.

will they start diesel tractors like a JD 4020?

they should have an amp rating so if you have a battery that has 850 amp starting rate and buy a 350 amp charger mite not do it but a warm engine and somebody left the lights on to check traps will save walking

Not good .I returned to NAPA. I bought a extra battery and use that .Save your money

I have 2 and you should toss them on the charger to top off every 6 months but they are generally still showing 3/4 or better full even with a couple uses.

I have a booster pack ES5000 it has an external charger that is easy to lose if you don't use it often so I tie it to the pack most of the time that one is supposed to be able to do 25 cars in a row I have gone and looked at used cars with no battery just clamps on the cable ends and start it right up. then you can see all the things they forgot to mention were wrong.

and I have a Schumacher that you just put and extension cord to the back of it

both work well , the ES5000 is bigger more amps and heavier

bought the first one on a Saturday afternoon in December around 2020 about an inch of snow had a battery I knew was going to be covered under warranty. tow truck was going to be hours and 80 bucks for the call.
so I found the nearest auto parts store 2 mile walk called ahead made sure they had a battery and that I had enough time before they closed, so I walked got to the store thought about how much it was going to suck to carry a battery back 2 miles bought the jump pack they had on the shelf , guy at counter had them all charged and ready to go and carried back jumped the expedition and drove home.

Did you charge it before you tried to use it like the direction say? When at the store I was told to or I would not have. They told me more than one guy has brought them back saying they were junk but they didn't charge them and when the napa store employee charged it later after there returns that always worked just fine.

Noco works for me. I top it off every 6 months, plenty of power to start a 7.0 liter diesel.

I keep my boat batteries in the house. 2 amp trickle charge every couple months in the winter. When trapping some wild place one goes in a plastic box behind the pickup seat.

I bought a Gooloo 2000 2 years ago and it's great. Less than $100 on Amazon. They make a 4000 as well for larger vehicles.

I have two Schumacher 1639's. Rated for 8.0l gas or 6.0 Diesel. Used them several times over the years. Always did what they needed to do. Top of the charge on my birthday every year or after use. About a 2% loss during a year of storage

Love it.
I’ve jumped my 966 IH with it. Don’t think you’d have a problem with a 4020.
After months of not using it, it will still be 3/4 or better charged.
