Will snares with long extensions that are tied off to nearest solid object be ok on cats with the 285 lb. Break aways? I’m not too concerned with coyotes getting up momentum and busting out. I’m making five foot snares but have eight foot extensions if I need them. I understand you can’t tie off to a fence in Wyoming? I’ve snared a few cats here but we’re not required to have break aways.

I learned my lesson this year with long snares and cats. Unless u like climbing trees they aren't the best idea [Linked Image]

That looks a lot like some of my ground in Kentucky. No, I’m not much of a tree climber.

If in scrub oak foothills type stuff and cat couldn’t climb but wrap up would they tangle or get a head of steam with 13 ft. Of snare?

Your break aways will work just fine for coyotes and bobcats. I have used a lot of long snares with the Sullivan 280 LB. break away s-hooks.
lol, the coyotes will point out the weak spots on our snares! I like snares!

Short snare and a kill stick.
Once they go around the kill stick, they go down quickly-very humane.

I’m thinking of weight reduction. 1500 miles this fall until I start hanging them. The eight foot extensions can be used for both traps and snares.

Snares & supports are very easy to transport!!
The biggest problem with out of state snaring is having a warm place to thaw out the Frozen catch before skinning?

They'll work fine .
The main problem I have with snared cats are a certain % eaten .
It'd heart breaking to go to the work of catching a 3 to 4 hundred dollar cat and feed it to the eagles.

Just make some 8' snares they work very well on both bobcats and coyotes . Extensions can be helpful I use a fair amount of doubled up wire as well . Snare supports can make or break some set locations.

You're friend along the snare line .

Don't hear of many using foot snares up here.
I'd be cautious of catching a mt lion as you would have to release it.

I think my snare are about maybe 4 ft long and I don't do foot snares.
I tie off on willow bushes mainly, or stake.

No not trying to foot snare. I was saying the heavy cables could be used on drags/clogs with foot traps instead of hauling chain and drags across the country. There’s lions in that area. I’ve been thinking about how to release one if caught.

It’s been a few years, shorter catch pole gives you more control.

Live cats tangled halfway up and tree saying "good morning" is what keeps it so interesting!

When it comes to snares, there are some tricks that help save your gear if you snag a fiesty one or a much larger hog. Extensions gives them an even bigger run at getting free. Tying off to a green limb with some flex works so well I wanted to try to replicate that set up out in open ground. I ended up testing all kinds of shock springs but none of them had any more that a couple of inchers to give. Wolf springs better but only another inch or 2 of travel. I ended up with a big box of basically obsolete garage door springs.

FYI I rig all the Conner and MB springs get rigged online but I loop all the OH door parts.
