I am having issues getting grey squirrels to go in live traps. Caught a couple with salted peanuts, now I can't get the others to go in. Using both small and large traps. Probably 4-5 more running around that have no interest. Any suggestions. Thanks

Are they living in a structure or just running around a yard?

I've caught them with apple slices before as well as PB and nuts, just don't use nuts in sight of birds. If they won't go into cages , conibears or tube traps work . Don't put traps on ground or you'll get non targets

More details. Squirrels are running around a maple tree and an oak tree in the yard. No acorns. Not entering the house. Will run all around the traps but won't enter. Traps are on the ground. Caught two squirrels the first two days. Now nothing. Can't shoot as its in a development.

Squirrels live in family groups and are territorial. If you trap out that family, the ones next door will notice the open territory and move in.

I set my 8X8 cages on tree branches with bungee cords. Squirrels are more apt to go into a cage when its off the ground. I believe someone on here mentioned it before and they are correct. I use peanut butter smeared inside a soda bottle I have cut in half. I add either peanuts of corn or if there's a bird feeder around, bird seed. If all else fails, I will find a discreet place to hide and remove them with my silenced air rifle. I'd estimate that 75% of my calls have to do with squirrels, especially when there's baby squirrels running around.

X2 on elevated. Even if no more than on top of a tree stump. Watch squirrels enough and you'll see them sitting ON THINGS to eat. Another thing look for travel routes, elevated travel routes. Wooden privacy fences almost always are squirrel highways along the top.

Another thing: Squirrels ain't stupid. If they see a squirrel in a cage, they will avoid it for a long time. You need to change up something, like hang from a limb or on side of fence/building.
