Went to a county park to detect. We have been there before and I know a lot of others have detected it to. Found an out of the way spot to check. I had a terrible high pitch tone followed by a iron tone mix. I could only get the tone in one direction. But you have to dig every signal because you don't get many. I popped out a plug and stuck the pinpointer in the hole and came out with a 1908-O barber quarter. My first coin with a New Orleans mint mark. I found a Roosevelt dime and 11 wheats also. My wife got six wheats.

I've got a 1900 and 1905 Barber dimes, but no quarter yet. Congrats. My bucket list silver is a Seated Liberty in any denomination.

I only find gold nuggets, they just look like rocks. I've never found old coins like that. That is an amazing find, and in excellent condition, though I know nothing about rare currency. It's worth more than it's weight in silver I would hope.

Got these today. Also a warning from the parks person " you won't find anything here. This detected all the time". I pulled ten pennies, all wheats. Never went out and not found a memorial. Then this 1913 barber dime.

Crazy what is still around in ‘burn’t out’ spots. I hear stories all the time of folks pulling Civil War buckles, shells, spurs and buttons on places that get hot 4-5 times a year.

Houndone. I run a minelab equinox 800. Whatever you buy don't spend less than $500 on it. If you do you'll kick yourself in a year when your buying a better unit. There are good units at that price. But if you can spend a little more, do it.

Watch Aquachigger on youtube. He shows his garrett and doesn't really teach you how to use but tells you what hes doing and you can see what he has. He lets you listen to tones. He is a Garrett rep. I have a pretty good idea of how it works and I have never been.

The wife and I started with Garrett pros and found way to much iron. Just couldn't discriminate it out. We dug a hundred pounds of iron each. Way too much. Not that some iron isn't cool but it's a lot of work. With the equinox 800 you can discriminate iron easily and set up your own programs. We use a coin shooter program we saw on YouTube and it works great.

I have an Excalibur which I've found some good stuff with; lots of jewelry and coins. I mostly like detecting in water. It's a lot easier than on land. I often thought about upgrading to the Equinox 600 or 800.
