So we went back to the park site again for day four. Popped another barber quarter, a 1906 and six wheats. Hit the woods today at the edge of the field we have been detecting. So four days and four silvers is pretty good at a site that has been hit hard in the past.

I have a couple of 100 plus year old homesteads I need to metal detect around. I don't have one but would like to find someone that has one.

Nice finds. However we are going to need GPS coordinates of all the locations so that we can come and confirm your finds. LOL

it doesn't matter how well an area has been searched before. It depends on how well the MD'er knows the area (research!), and THE MACHINE he's using. I've always profited from the "worked out" areas :-)))))))))

When I was a kid my dad would take me to all the old logging town sites. He would visualize where the store, school house and church once stood. I suggested we get a metal detector and try to find some old coins. He looked kind of bewildered at me and said “Son, nobody had money back then, we all worked for credit at the company store.”

. . . and you would be amazed how much money (coins mostly) wouldn't ever make it to the church collection plate on Sunday, or how many small personal caches were hidden for fear of being robbed or stole and never recovered by the owner due to unforeseen circumstances. . . . OLD GOLD & SILVER COINS ;-)

Using a equinox 800.

The Equinox 800 is a good detector and so is the Minelab Manticore. I primarily hunt sites related to the Oregon Trail.
This small display was given to one of the landowners who gave me permission to hunt on his land.

Kayak cats. Those are some great finds. A lot of those items are on my bucket list.

I probably should mention (concerning the non-metallic finds) that most of these Oregon Trail related sites in Nebraska are on agricultural ground. Therefore when detecting in these fields there are fragments of glass, crockery and porcelain which oftentimes show up on the surface, especially after a rain. They may just be fragments but I consider them historically significant and pick them up as well.
