Had a light bulb go off for me today when looking for my cooling towel.

If you were or have kids that in scouts, you probably still have the bandana/neckerchief slides. With those, you can use those to hold your cooling towel in place around your neck so its not constantly falling off when working/playing.

I think my mother might have my cub scout stuff yet. Why I don't know.

I still have my boy Scout Handbook from the early 70's.

I have my dads manual, and uniform, though it would of been in the 60s. There were some umm...interesting things in that manual you wouldnt expect from that era.

Just tuck the ends inside your collar. Unless your shirtless of course.

I'll have to take your word for it. It's been decades since I've cracked it open. I'm from that era so I might not find some of those things as interesting or unexpected as you do.

My boys tried the scout thing but I guess they were eagles when they were six yrs old.

didnt progress to boy scouts because I was involved in too much other stuff but you didnt hi eagle till you finished boy scouts.

Still have my uniform (still fits too ), bunch of books, merit badge sash, eagle award, OA sash, Philmont patch, several hats and neckerchiefs and slides, a book full of letters from senators and such when I got my eagle, pictures, etc etc etc. I was in from tiger cub to eagle and then assistant scoutmaster.

I was never allowed to be in scouts. My Dad send they were a bunch of Sally's that sat around and tied knots and I had better things to do with my time. I remember the conversation and just stared at him, speechless.

Who needs a slide if you remember how to tie a Buckaroo/Friendship knot. It sure came in handy during the Covid mask era.

Unfortunately theres not enough towel to tie the knots without choking yourself out .

All my stuff is new... I signed my son and daughter up for cubs 3 years ago. My daughter has now been a scout for 2 years and my son just moved up a few weeks ago.
After their first 6 months or so in cubs, I started to feel guilty about dropping my kids at camp and asking other adults to do all the work so I volunteered and have just started my 3rd year as a scouter.

I still have a few things from my time in the BSA back in the’70’s. Have some displayed in my home office. About a year ago I came across a really nice handbook from 1940. Great read
