They seem to be expanding in western Oregon, a few years ago I had never caught one. Now I catch them all over, right in town, out of town, in foot holds and in cage traps poly traps can’t keep them out. Fun little guys, pretty spunky.

I had a post last year showing fox toilets, they are more like cats than dogs. Large litters so they expand fast. They climb good too. A bonus is they are fairly easy to put up.

Forty or fifty years ago we had about an equal number of reds and grays in this area of southeast PA. The grays disappeared about forty years ago. The reds are thriving.

I used to catch a pretty good percentage of grey's.
Now, maybe 1 or 2 a year.

Seems like they disappeared here around 2008-2010

I have some properties with good populations and others with none. Back in the late 70’s and early 80’s Reds were about like coons. Along came the coyotes and reds disappeared, I may catch 1 every other year now.

A grey fox was one of my very first catches as a kid back in the early 80’s. Rubbed some bacon grease in the bark of a black oak and set a #1.5 victor single long spring right on top of the ground. Got $40 for him in the round. Used that money to buy 6-120 and a dozen 110 conibear. Started trapping a big spring just behind the house a couple miles away using my bicycle. At the end of the year, I sold enough fur to buy a Honda 200 3-wheeler.

Fond memories.

Bruce, when you get to Nevada, you'll probably run into some.
